For Brian's Keneth Britt provided an exciting goal in the first half. Brandon Hoskin came out play- ing strong in the second half and was rewarded with a point. James Donaldson deserves credit for playing goal against the strong printers. Port Perry Lions Club had a tough time against the hardy Manvers team. Brent Wagg managed a goal to keep the Lion's Club from being shut out. Marie Gedge played well in goal in the second half, and Duncan Gibson put in a promising ef- fort. Goal scorers for Manvers were Travis McCabe, Jack McCabe, Jordan Jaques, Justin McGill, Darryl McGrath, and Rachel Spearing. All players did an outstanding job! Twice Told Tales won their match against Lake Scugog Lumber on June 16, but see the "Tournament Highlights" for a reversal of fortunes. Matthew Hertzberg scored the first goal, despite good defence by Andrew Adams. Lakelan Gould scored two more to put Twice Told Tales up by three points, with offensive help from Peter Dut- ka. Davin Michel got two good shots on goal. John Anthony Tanti wouldn't say die and his hard-running game was re- warded with a goal. Kyle Geer had several fantastic opportu- nities before he finally collected a point. Sean Murray showed determination and stamina for Lake Scugog Lumber. Under Nine Second Hand for Kids bested Raglan Welding by a 4-2 score. Derek Young played a superb game in net to keep Raglan from overtaking the lead. Jack Shepherd, Hilary Gibson and Jamie Leigh Geer spearheaded the offence to help Spencer Churchill score four goals. Graeme McNab, Amy Evans and Marta Van Camp shored up the defence. Taylor Ramsay and Danielle Goddard played hard and both succumbed to in- juries--we hope they are both feeling better! Joseph Kozlin- sky continues to be Raglan's of- fensive force, scoring their first goal of the game. Lori Powell was thrilled to tally a point as well. Colin Ritchie and Jamie Corneal combined for a great ef- fort in net. Darlene Colton Photography continues to mow down their opponents, and this time the unfortunate victim was Water- front Cafe. Ryan O'Leary putin an outstanding effort to score his first three goals of the sea- son. Matthew Kamminga con- tinues to be unstoppable, with four goals, and Justin Shinn kicked in one. Trevor Chandler played a strong game for Wa- terfront Cafe. James Stevenson made some key stops in goal, as did Peter Konstantinopolous. Haugen's Heroes also main- tained their unbeaten streak, against Mr. Sub. Great goal- tending by Jason Silk made the difference in the first half, which ended in a 1-1 tie. Kevin Hansen had scored for Hau- gen's, and Zach Pither got Mr. Sub's goal. In the second half the Heroes came alive, with three goals by Lea Lansdell and single markers by Greg Jeffrey and Kevin Robins. Mr. Sub was held in check by the excellent defence of Mike Jehu and An- drew Evans. Alexandra Guenther never gave up and showed good hustle for Mr. Sub. Tim's Renovations and Sub- by's Submarine played a close game, which ended 3-1 for Tim's. Daniel Bois' persever- ance paid off in two goals, and Richard Brazier scored one. Underll On June 5, Van Camp Con- tracting extended their win- ning streak against Willowtree Farms. The squad was led by Dean Van Camp's four goals, with singles by Clayton Gil- more, Davis Halward and Tre- vor Robins. Strong defensive play by Jessica Stone and Am- ber Park stymied Willowtree Farm's robust attack in the sec- ond half. Greg Beenen made several booming kicks and with the playmaking of Wesley Langmaid, Trisha Cowie and Chris Gloster, Willowtree played a much stronger second half. On June 16 Willowtree Farms just edged out Legal Ea- gles for a 2-1 win. It was an ex- citing game to watch, still scoreless at the end of the first half. Adam Luke was in net for the first half for Willowtree, and then Adam Landry took over. Stacey Cunningham came out strong in the second half and scored her first goal, assist- ed by everyone on the team working together. The Legal Eagles tied up the game and Justin Moffat got one. Then Gordon Kilner scored the go- ahead goal. Chloe Desmarais had a near miss and Chris Glos- ter played well too. Manvers earned a win in their match against Emmerson Insurance, with a 2-1 score. Greg Robinson scored both of Manvers' goals, but had help from a great effort by all the players on the team. Gerard Timmers kept Emmerson from being shut out. Honorable men- tion goes to Matt Smart and Leah Zochodne. Manvers could not duplicate that performance against the strong Van Camp Contracting team. Dean Van Camp contin- ued to show his offensive prow- ess with yet another hat truck. Dave Halward scored twice, and Clayton Gilmore collected a point as well. Soccer Tournament Highlights Despite dreary weather, Sat- urday's house league tourna- ment proved to be good fun for all. Space doesn't allow for a full reporting on all games, but here are some high points of the day: Zubby's won a game! Despite bad luck so far this season, Sub- by's played tough all day and were narrowly defeated in their first two games by just one goal. But in a third game against the highly rated (and previously undefeated!) Haugen's Heroes, 204 Casimir St., 2 Ont. The good news for Tim's Reno- vations is that they managed to hold the photographers to only three goals in their game. Raglan Welding struggled in close games all day, but in an exciting match against the strong Haugen's Heroes, Evan Powell managed a personal vic- tory--he scored his first goal ever after trying for three years! The Lions Club also tasted victory for their first time in a match against Lake Scugog Lumber. Not to be outdone, 'Lake Scugog Lumber picked u their first tie in a match wit Brian's Towing, and then their first win against their nemesis from Wednesday night, Twice Told Tales. Thanks to all concerned for persevering through the wet weather! Mites win two On June 17, Port Perry's Mite fastball team in the York- Durham League finished a busy three evenings of competition against the visitors from Stouff- ville. The team had a score to settle with them after a previ- ous game and this was accom- plished convincingly by a Port Perry 14-1 victory. The hot hitter of the game for Port Perry was Jeff Kane with two singles and a triple. Matt Skerratt, Mike LeFort and Steve MacLennan each had two hits while Matt Clayton, Mike Koury and Tim Jones chipped in with singles. Tim chalked up the win with seven strike outs and just one walk, while Mike LeFort did a Duane Ward-style "save" with two K's. The score for the home team might have been even higher except for our five "called" third strikes which is a problem that the team is working on. Game Two of the week was on the road to Pickering and here the team ran roughshod over their hosts in a 15-3 victory. Mike Wiseman was perfect at "two for two" hitting and showed head-up base-running - throughout. Other hits for Port Perry were by Matt Breen and Tim Jones. Both Stuart Co- chrane and Graham Dick got aboard the bases with three walks as the Pickering pitcher couldn't find the plate consis- tently. Mike Koury did well in some catching work for Port and Mike Milligan continued to improve on his defensive cover- age in the field. Tim pitched the win for Port on two walks, three hits and 12 strike outs. The team's first game of the week came close to being a win by Port but the final score was a 7-5 loss to Thornhill. The game was tied at two after one inning and we led 4-3 after three in- nings. Thornhill surged ahead with two fourth inning runs but momentum seemed to have shifted our way as we tied the game in the top of the final in- ning. To finish the game, how- ever, we beat ourselves on men- tal errors as we allowed two Thornhill runners to score. di- rectly from second on bunt plays and allowed a third base runner to sneak home on a "double-steal" with Thornhill runners "on-the-corners". Matt Skerratt led our offence with a big triple and singles were banged out by Steve, Jeff and Mike Milligan. Mike Le- Fort was on base each time with two walks. He also saw some pitching duty with one hit, four strike outs and seven walks, while Tim gave up two hits, two walks and recorded five strike outs. The coaches were pleased to see the squad rebound after this Thornhill loss and the boys' improved level of intensity and concentration was rewarded. All in all, the team's progress has been satisfactory, with the season one third of the way over now and the eight new mem- bers of the team are eagerly learning to play competitive fastball. Next home game for Port Perry will be June 30 at 6:30 p.m. at Water St. South. Come out and see these young gentle- men represent our town! Seagrave Mites win two Seagrave Moving and Stor- age were again successful last week over Flieler Petro Canada by a score of 13-6. LeeAnne Wilkie had a strong game going three for three at the plate. Contributing heavily to the win were Travis, Brad Hill and Mark Blakely. y a p i MhGnas « bait don 616s Mithise A a 0 On A Tgp ie i a a Ea So --------
