Brian's Towing was able to barely edge out the Port Perry Lion's Club, 1-0. Jennifer Ed- wards got the lone goal. Good goaltending by Maggie Robins kept the Lions in check, and Caylie Gilmore played ong offensive game. Hoge mention goes to Si nd Bronwin Renison for the Lions. Manvers and Twice Told Tales remained in a 0-0 dead- lock by the time the rains came. Playing a strong game for Man- vers were Rachel, Travis and Jordan. Cameron O'Connor and Matthew Hertzberg worked tirelessly for Twice Told Tales. Port Perry Printing scored two unanswerd goals in their match against Lake Scugog Lumber. Lake Scugog Lumber showed strong play, however, with Kim and Jeff Rankin both fulfilling important roles. Mon- day's practice of positional play paid off as all players tried to do Just that. The coaching staff is looking forward to next week! The Printer's goals came from Paul Jewell, assisted by Leo Taillon; and Erin Bray, assisted by Leo (again!) and Tara Hutch- ins. Shannon Branton also looked good offensively, and a versatile Erin Bray and Patrick Dunn shared the shutout. Under Nine It was the battle of the Sub- marines on June 8, when Mr. Sub played Subby's. It was an exciting match, with Mr. Sub taking the win 4-3. Zach Pither scored twice. Shawn Demaio and Lindsay Carr each added one. Subby"s almost tied it up, but thanks to Timothy Cruick- shank for stopping a penalty shot. Pat Lewis provided all three goals for Mr. Sub. A good game was played by Christina Reader, and Brent and Taylor Meeking. Second Hand for Kids forfeit- ed their game against Water- front Cafe, but a robust practice game was held. Liam McKer- acher played both ends well. Marta VanCamp tried hard and Spencer Churchill as usual had a strong offensive game. Trevor Chandler played a good two way game, as did Erin Gery. Danny Halward moved the ball well to thwart several opposing efforts. Raglan Welding was stung 3- 1 by Manvers, thanks to two goals by Zach. Plowright and one from Joel Ward. Grace Michel worked hard to get the lone marker for the welders. Nicholas Murphy showed an excellent offensive effort, and Scott Symes provided good first half goaltending. Gabriel Bens- chop showed true grit on de- fence. Darlene Colton Photography continued their winning streak by besting Tim's Renovations. Matthew Kamminga continues to lead their offence, with four goals. Justin Shinn and James Colton also extended their scor- ing streaks. Katelyn Cowie and Ryan O'Leary were also indis- pensable, making good offen- sive moves. Richard Brazier played well on defence for Tim's as did Keri Vernooy. Laura Batterink put forward an out- standing effort, chasing down many long passes. Sandy Far- quharson who played goal in the second half made a number of fine saves to help the team. Haugen's Heroes and Reach Park Motors were evenly matched, resulting in an excit- ing 3-3 draw. Reach Park Mo- tors noted excellent play by Ke- vin Gloster and Jordan Beelby on defence. Their goals "were scored by renowned figure skat- er Pamela Armstrong, Julie Do- mik, and Eric Hertzberg. Mike Jehu showed superb defensive skills and long kickbacks for the Heroes. Kevin Robbins tal- lied two points, and Lea Lans- dell got one. Hailey Wilson picked up an assist. Underll The Under 11's held out a hit- tle bit longer than the younger groups on June 9, but were also forced off the field by the elec- trical storm. VanCamp Con- tracting and Willowtree Farms held out the longest, trying to break a 2-2 tie. Gordon Kilner scored both goals for Willow- tree. Derek Fishley is improv- ing steadily and was good at forechecking. Christina Desma- rais played remarkably well, and Adam Landry excelled also. Matthew Robertson played well in goal. Legal Eagles were placed to get their first tie of the season, against Emmerson Insurance. Andrea Tindall, Katie Bierness and Glenn Thompson all played strong offensive games, with Torry Goodwin scoring a goal. Noel Young made some good de- fensive moves, as did Deanna MacKenzie and Gerard Tim- mers. Emmerson Insurance did even better on June 10, just nudging Manvers by one goal in a 3-2 final. Torry Goodwin got the hat trick, with help offen- sively from Andrea Tindall and Evan Ashton. Rebecca Cruick- shank played a great defensive game and Matthew Smart pro- vided excellent goaltending. Sa- sha Lottse and Jamie Cameron were the scorers from Manvers. Greenbank teams meet in Mite action Greenbank Garden Centre met Greenbank Variety June 7 at S.A.Cawker for an exciting close game, with the Garden Centre winning 11-9. This was a super game by all players including Katelyn Lee, James Adderley and Clay Trainor for Greenbank Variety and Anna Fletcher, Steven Nor- ton and Brian Martyn for the Garden Centre. Bruton's Big V wins 17-8 In this week's match-up be- tween Cottrell's Cuspids and Bruton's Big V, Bruton's won thegame 17-8. Bruton's had strong defen- give playing from ol players including Caitlin McTaggert and Caitlin Baker. Christo- pher Booth and Pat Lewis were powerful at bat and kept Cottrell's running for the ball. Cottrell's Cuspids had some good hitting by Billy Britt, Da- vid Dekoning and Jason Cot- trell, with Billy also making a great slide into first base. Great playing by both teams. Cornish Public School track and field team put in an excellent performance at the All Durham Finals held at Civic Fieldsin Oshawa. The following are the results of the Cornish students at the meet. In the 100 metre and 200 me- tre runs Jennifer Bruton and Dean Van Camp each picked up firsts. Amanda Wakeford was third in the 200 metre. In the 400 metre Amanda Wakeford was third, Derek Tin- dall was third and Jodi May was fourth. Inthe 800 metre Sarah Smith was third, David Justynski was fourth, Nicole Bourgeois was fifth, Brad Johnston was sixth and Kim Coates was sixth. In the 1500-metre Sarah Smith was second, Braden Tar- botton was third and Karlyn Allward was sixth. Amanda Wakeford was third in the hurdles and both Diana Burnett and Cate Lewis were third. Dean Van Camp was sec- ond in the long jump and Becky Evans was third. Diana Burnett was fourth in the triple jump, and Becky Evans was fifth. Relay teams also putin a good performance. The 10-year-ola girls relay team was first. Team members were Lindsay Wilson, Sarah Smith, Jodi May, Jenni- fer Bruton and Taryn Izatt- Galloway. The 12-year-old girls were fourth in the relay. Team mem- bers were Jennifer Smith, Kar- en Francis, Becky Evans and Amanda Wakeford. The 13-year-old girls relay team was third.
