The first tournament on the 1993 fishing circuit will have anglers testing their luck on Lakes Scugog and Sturgeon. Three Scugog anglers Peter Davidson, Dave Mercer and Don Jessup will be competing in the tournament series. There is a maximum limit of six bass per day. Based on a full field, a one- day tournament garners about $25,000 in cash and prizes. The winners receive $5,000, with the top 25 finishers also being awarded cash prizes. During the season each an- gler is awarded a point for every pound of bass caught in the tournaments. The top 10 teams from each region earn a berth in the Classic semi-final. The top teams compete at Rideau Ferry : Raley cy ONS & on September 1 and 2. The top 20 teams from there will then advance to the Classic final, to be held on the Ottawa River on September 4 and 5. The anglers compete as individuals in the The R.H. A new format has been intro- duced to the tournament this year where anglers will com- pete in a series of two one-day tournaments in five regions. The new format allows anglers to have a bad day of fishing without jeopardizing their sea- son. Other tournaments on the trail will be the Canadian Open in Kingston from July 2-4, Oril- lia Open from July 10-11, Tri- Lakes Open July 17-18, Mid- land Open July 24-25, Rideau Ferry Open July 24-25, Rice Lake Open in Bewdley July 31- August 1, Barrie Open August 14-15, Parry Sound Open Au- gust 28-29, Brockville Open Au- gust 28-29 and the Orillia Fall Challenge September 11-12. The different regions offer various lake conditions for the anglers. The lakes included in the tournament trail this year are Scugog, Sturgeon, Cou- chiching, Simcoe, Lake Ontario, Georgian Bay, Big and Little Ri- deau, Rice Lake, Stony Lake, Clear Lake, Parry Sound and Bay, St. Lawrence River and the GM Pro Bass Series begins in Port Perry on June 26, 27 Ottawa River. All GM Pro Bass tourna- ments are live release events. At the end of each tournament the bass are returned to the wa- ter by the Shimano Live Rea- lease boat. The bass season and the bass tournament trail opens in Port Perry on June 26 and 27, brought to Port Perry by Philp Pontiac Buick Limited. The weigh-in show will be held in Palmer Park, beginning at 2:30 p.m. For the young anglers in the community the Little League Anglers of Canada will be host- ing an event for children 13 and under on June 27 from 9:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. The goals of the Little League Anglers of Canada is to promote fun, family and proper conser- vation techniques. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Registration will be at Palmer Park on the day of the event. Children will receive a but- ton, Tim Hortons morning snack, a barbecue lunch, gifts, prizes and participation awards. Children should bring their own rod, reel and bait. Cawker victorious at Scugog school soccer tournament On Saturday, June 5 the Scu- . gog Youth Soccer Club spon- sored an Elementary School Soccer Tournament involving Cartwright Central Public School, Scugog Christian School, Epsom Public School, R.H. Cornish and S.A. Cawker. Despite the cold, wet, windy playing conditions these five teams played some excellent soccer and exhibited a lot of good sportsmanship. S.A. Caw- ker finished first in round-robin play with seven points, R.H. 1430 King St. GOLFERS! PORT PERRY 985-2234 Cornish second with six points and Epsom third with five points. In a hard-fought champion- ship game a strong S.A. Cawker side defeated a very determined R.H. Cornish team by a 3-1 score.
