EN --------a i I tit aE A. "A Family Tradition for 127 Years" PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, June 8, 1993 - 11 Letter to the editor Balance of tax demand has reader thinking To the Editor: With the balance of the tax demand got me thinking of the amount required and allotted for the different pockets we are asked to fill. The tax bill states that at one oint the province supplies dol- ar for dollar only to state at an- other point as something differ- ent, but, it does state the percentages required and allot- ted: for instance: $1,234,875 for township administration - 17 per cent; $363,183 for Health and Social Service - five per cent; $145,273 for planning and zoning - two percent; $1,162,187 for parks and recre- ation - 16 per cent; $290,547 for environment service - four per cent; $3,060,742 for roads - 42 per cent; $944,277 for protec- tion - 13 per cent. ~ Many I believe are overlap- ipng and are being provided by county, provincial or federal levels leaving me to wonder just how much could be saved here. This leaves me to believe that also by amalgamating many levels many dollars could be saved. But, this would mean we don't require many councillors, mayors and department heads plus many of their friends. With the amount of tax ar- rears shows that we are supply- ing demands that many people sure cannot afford and whenthe constitution vote was held it Annual antique, craft show this weekend at arena 'The Scugog Arena in Port Perry will be the place to be on June 12 and June 13, 1993 for the Fourth Annual Antique and Craft Show and Sale. MORROW FARM EQUIPMENT Over 45 years in the business FORD NEW HOLLAND - Versatile Farm « Industrial + Lawn & Garden + Sales & Service ZD FORD NEW HOLLAND SUNDERLAND (705) 357-3121 was plain we did not want more government. I was amazed with the amount of funds required for as many pockets, and won- dered whether many people could imagine the amounts. [tis predicted that we will experi- ence a tax revolt and feel it is long overdue. One way to save millions is to cut down on sup- plied governments, make it run like a business not just an exer- cise to see how we can make our required 10 month of labors to pay for taxes any longer. We have too many people running away from our country, it was 1,200 month. I have not been able to get the latest figure. We sure are paying plenty to get sound thinking and much of it sure is over due. Think can we tax take or give any, any more. Given an opportunity I am sure I could with my $10 calculator bring in some different figures, and not over tax my capacity of thinking.
