Better health is wished for Brad Morton who underwent appendectomy recently and Ma- vis Brodie who is having heart problems. Hope you are home and feeling better soon. They have both been patients in Port Perry Hospital. About thirty gathered at Alpe's for their annual fire- works display and enjoyed a vis- it together. The Shirley Women's Insiti- tute is sponsoring a bus trip on June 7 to Mary Maxim, Paris; Hespler and retail outlets in Kitchener area at a modest cost. Guests were sister Emma (who just turned one April 7), great- grandparents Babe and Wilf Brown, Oshawa, great aunt Wendy Killens, Bowmanville; Gordon and Debbie Bryans, Leanna and Christina and grandparents Nancy and Bob Bryans. The O.N.O. Swim Bus Pro- gram from July 6 to July 16 at Uxpool will be held again this year only if enough children sign up. If interested or if infor- mation 18 needed call Nancy Bryans at 986-5530. The weekly Senior Citizens Euchre Party was held at the Town Hall with 11 tables of card sharks in attendance. Winners were Ruby Cochrane, Thomas Manns, Alex Moffatt, Pat Por- rill, Edna Manns, Norman Roh- rer and Nerta Masters. Draws were won by Bernice Loudfoot, Ross McRoberts, Carl Gimblett, Ruby Cochrane and Richard Potter. Marion Larmer introduced the program with brief back: ground comments and then showed the video, "A Celebra- tion of Our Roots," which out- lined the history of the different Methodist traditions through the years, ranging from the ear- ly Circuit Riders, Evangelism, Camp meetings,. Education, Women's participation, W.M.S., Mission and Social work, music etc. Discussion which followed reinforced the points brought out in this excellent film. Thel- ma distributed a brief outline of our own local church history in closing and pronounced the ben- ediction. Marie Atfield of Vancouver spent last week in the area visit- ing her father, Merrill and Jean Van Camp as well as other rela- tives and friends. ' On Saturday evening she en- Joyed being part of the surprise house warming when quite a number of friends and relatives gathered at the new home of Valerie Van Camp of Whitby for an evening of fun.
