There will be an- other opportunity for baptism on Father's Day, the 3rd Sun- day of June. So if this date is more appropriate, please con- tact the minister ahead of time. Children and wives will be proud to see the men helping out. Have you heard of "Scugog Is- land on Sale" June 12, spon- sored by "Grace" U.C.W.? If in- terested call Linda Atkinson 985-8709 and she will explain the details for renting a table. Bible School for the summer is already shaping up. Your help in any area will be appre- ciated. Think what you can offer and we will enjoy your coopera- tion. The minister can direct you. Elaine and her husband are enjoying a well deserved vaca- tion but will be back by Sunday. By May 26 there should be a lull in the spring work and you will enjoy the Beef Supper at the hall. Bonnie Gerrow still has tickets for you if you call soon. Today every child and some adults must have a teddy bear of varius colours and sizes. Recently a little girl took her three teddy bears to hospital with her and shared them with lonely or elderly people who found comfort in their presence. So three cheers for the teddy bear with the flashing eyes. He stands about 18 inches high. He's just the kind of cud- dly teddy every toddler loves, but there's more to this particu- lar teddy - a lot more. In his tummy, in place of the usual squeak, there is a little microphone, a miniature ampli- fier, and a battery just like the one I use in my transistor radio. Wires from the amplifier lead up to a pair of little bulbs be- hind the teddy's eyes. A complicated teddy, but he and other bears like him are do- ing an amazing job. For they are helping deaf children to speak! How do they do it? Well, whenever you say any- thing to him, his eyes begin to flash. Children love to see this of course - and I'm told that deaf toddlers soon realize the way to make the teddy's eyes flash is to speak to him. Once they grasp this, their speech apparently comes on by leaps and bounds. The man who invented this remarkable bear, Ron Power, has devoted his life to helping the deaf, and I'm sure he had his reward with the first word prompted from the first child by the first teddy bear.
