This meeting is being called because the Mayor of Scugog has refused the many requests to call a public meeting which would allow Scugog Citizens the opportunity to voice their concerns directly to the members of Scugog Council. This year as well, we should thank the groups who have par- ticipated in Earth Day on April 26, as well as Arbor Day on May It has been a busy two weeks as well over 1,000 children, teens and adults gave of their time to "act locally" in the on- going effort to reduce the litter In our community. As well nu- merous tree Nantings have tak- en place and the environment benefit of that will be noticeable for years to come. Special thanks to all the ele- mentary and. high school stu- dents and staff for their time in organizing and carrying out a variety of projects, to teachers Larry Doble and Don Hughes and the environmental classes of PPHS who did the plantin in the new Rotary Park as their contribution to Earth Day. Thanks also to the Port Perry United Church Youth Group and their leaders for the Apple Valley clean-up, to the Baha'is for their help in Palmer Park, to the Hope Christian Reform Church Youth Group who got an early start on April 7, to the 2nd Port Perry Pathfinders and their leaders Joanne Popovitch and Marg Prentice who also - helped on Earth Day, to all the other Guide, Scout, Cubs and Beavers for their help around the community, to Al Cochrane of View Lake for his assistance in the design of the new gardens at Rotary Park, to the Crest- view Park neighbors in Black- stock for their clean-up and last but not least to the local mem- bers of Landscape Ontario (South Port Gardens, McMillan Tree Farms, Clark Property Project will create dust To the Editor: I would like to express my concern regarding the Heavy Construction Equipment School proposed for Marsh Hill, the enormous amount of dust this project will generate and the threat to the involved wet- lands. The past has proven that both government and industry can be notoriously proficient at overlooking environmental de- struction when in pursuit of revenue. You, Mayor Hall have in- formed me that the law was served 2 years ago by informing everyone within 400 yards of this development. Picking up garbage and litter left by others whether they are tourists or locals is disgusting, back breaking and expensive work and if this community were ever to attach a dollar fig- ure to our volunteer time com- mitment it would go into the thousands.
