Invitational Regatta to be held on Lake Scugog May 16 The Scugog Boathouse Com- mittee is organizing a Buy a Block fundraising campaign in hopes of raising enough money to begin construction on a 80x40 foot boathouse for Scugog Town- ship. The committee, formed in February, will be selling 3,000 blocks at $5 each. Committee members are also hoping for monetary and con- struction material donations. The committee will also be ap- plying for a Wintario grant. If fundraising activities progress as hoped, construction -of the $35,000 boathouse could begin later this summer. This summer, however, a small scale rowing club will be offered on the lake. The club has secured a storage area for two of its four-person rowing shells in Port Perry. A rowing training program for area high school students is underway and a limited learn to row program will be offered to adults in June, July and Au- gust. Negotiations have also been finalized with two other rowing clubs, to host a high school invi- tational regatta on Lake Scugog on Sunday, May 16. In addition to Durham Region area schools, organizers hope to attract schools from the Muskoka and Midland areas. Close to 80 high school ath- letes are expected to participate in the one-day event.
