rom ER CA RETR 16 - PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, April 27, 1993 "Scugog"s Community Newspaper of Choice" a Rn a SS Sa On Thursday evening Mrs. Judy Gibson was the commen- tator for the "Bridal Fashions through the Years" show pre- sented by the evening unit of our U.C.W. She was beautifully dressed in the gown she wore, as mother of the bride, at her daughter Bonnie's wedding. This was a parade of Bridal gowns worn down through the ages, from 1891 - 1992. Mrs. Jean Hunter looked eve- ry bit like a beautiful bride, wearing her own dress she wore when she married Mr. Neil Hunter. Helen Thomson looked like a radiant bride, wearing her own bridal gown she wore when she married Dave Thom- son. Her veil was carried by her grandaughter Mindy Thomson, daughter of Kim and Jim Thom- son. All the families of Green- bank had gowns worn by moth- ers, daughters, grandmothers and granddaughters and daughters-in-law. At one time dresses of four generations of one family walked down the aisle. This is the Baird family. Dana Hooker wore her moth- er's gown, worn when Dot Smith married Roy Hooker. Mary Jean Tillis family of Brides included her wedding | Greenbank News by Helen McKean ne ER CO REE Rn TE ERs dress, and also one dress she wore who was mother of the bride. The skit led by Joanne Olive- ro showed us how some wed- dings came about, even if they were held at midnight, when the farmers were too busy bringing in the hay to take time off to get hitched. Rev. Mr. Shepherd was the excited bride tripping down the aisle. The bridesmaid was suitably dressed and anxious to see the wedding take place. The Small Bridegroom did his duty but was not too sure he wanted to marry such a vivacious bride. The best man brought his best friend - his dog. Lucky draws were announced and the lucky groom - Jim Thomson won one as did his son Joel. Our special thanks to all the ladies who worked so hard to organize this event. Those be- hind the scenes and all the brides and Craig Robinson the usher! The special part of the eve- ning was when Rita Stickwood and Hugh Baird sang their ro- mantic songs, adding so much to this beautiful programme. Over $900. was raised for the Organ Fund. Thanks to all who made it happen. The evening unit of the U.C.W. will meet Monday, May 3 at 7:30 p.m. in the church. Please note the change of date.
