SCOTT ANDERSON' PORT PERRY STAR Squirt Soccer action Well, another season of squirt soccer has come and gone. Hopefully all of the children had some fun, and learned a lit- tle sportsmanship along the way. Thanks to all of the coach- es who volunteered their time and energy, and to all of our generous sponsors. The Port Perry Auto Glass Stingrays finished up their sea- son with another win against Brian's Towing. With a nearly perfect season they were our league champions this year. Spencer Churchill, Matthew Kamminga, Zach Pither, Thom- as Lee and Lea Lansdell all scored goals. Jennifer Vander- muellen's great passing ability and Tony Boomsma's effective maneuvering were both key to the teams success. James, Shannon, Brittany, Jessie, Wesley, Christine, and Christo- pher all came out for Brian's Towing and put in a terrific ef- fort. Darlene Colton Photography was close on the heels of the Stingrays, to finish in second spot. They also ended the sea- son with success against [.G.A. Nicholas Byers and Jonathan Dufoe each had a hat trick (plus one for Nicholas), Stacey Cun- ningham and James Colton each scored twice, and Julie- Ann Domik picked up an assist. The coaches of the [.G.A. team went to use this space to con- gratulate each of their team's players for putting in a strong effort all season. The players contributed to the fun of each game and were each able to im- prove their individual skills and abilities. Congratulations to Shawn, Steve, Leanne, Boston, Matthew, Erin E., Rebecca, Sandy, Brandon, Erin G. and Christopher! Raglan Welding concluded the season with a shut out against Flieler's Petro Canada. Kevin Robbins scored a hat trick. Eric Hertzberg, Jordan Beelby and Kara Olsen all played effective defense to pre- serve the shut out. Bridget Pal- leske, Kalin Moon and Matt Coxon played an excellent game for Flielers. The Lions Club fell to Man- vers 1, thanks to three goals by Stephen Stiner and two by Brett McGill. A good game was played by Whitney Ried for the [Lions Club, and some good de- fense executed by Holly Allison. Ryan Hutchins put in a solid ef- fort. Haugen's Chicken Barbecue nipped Trader Sams in an excit- ing match, 5-2. Matthew Su- therland and Lindsay Carr each scored two goals, and Alex MacKay scored as well. Alex Ni- colau contributed with several strong kicks, getting the ball into the o itions territory, and Scott Honey played effec- tive defense. Katie Beirness notched both points for Trader Sams, and honorable mention goes to Jamie Corneal for his en- thusiasm during the season. Cup Day proved to be a gruel- ling event this year, thanks to November-like weather in Au- gust! The Port Perry Auto Glass Stingrays avenged their only loss against Darlene Colton Photography to defeat them in the final match and emerge as Cup Day champions. They had an extremely strong team this year with several players show- ing scoring ability and great de- fensive skills. Brian's Towing and Flieler's Petro Canada may have been the most evenly matched teams this year. They met in the first game in the B division on Cup Day, ending in a 5-5 tie. They ended up in the final match again facing each other, and had to resort to over-time play to break the draw. Brian's Tow- ing came out on top, but Flielers were never out of the game! We look forward with antici- pation to next years season and we can only hope it feels a little more like summer!
