"A Family Tradition for 126 Years" PORT PERRY STAR - Real Estate Section - Tuesday, June 30, 1992 - 9 New video helps seniors become more active You're as young as you feel. And feeling young has a lot to do with how active you are. Unfor- tunately, as people age flexibili- ty tends to decline. This can in- terfere with mobility and ultimately independence -- the quality of life that seniors value most. A new, upbeat video called 'Moving To Live' teaches people how to take control of their lives and feel better. Dr. Art Burgess, the 63 year old Director of Fit- ness and Lifestyle Programs at the University of Alberta, dem- onstrates a series of 15 exercis- es that can be done at home, every day, in the kitchen, show- er, lounge or bedroom. The sim- ple stretches require no special equipment and are based on safe stretching techniques. Lindsay Homecoming '92 Come join the fun...comedy dinner theatre is back at Lind- say's Homecoming '92! Stand-up comics Wayne Flemming and Lou Eisen, well- known to Lindsay audiences, will be joined by David Merry . and Craig "Frenchie" McFar- lane, to present an evening of light-hearted humor on Satur- day, July 25 at the Lindsay Ar- mory. Tickets will cost $22.50 per person which includes a full sit down dinner and two hour com- edy show, featuring these four top comics. After the show, CKLY's morning man, Ron Marshall, will host a dance fea- turing your favorite tunes of the 50s to 80s. The show is restricted to peo- ple 19 years of age and older. Tickets are now available through Hicks Flowerland, 223 Kent Street West. The dinner theatre will be limited to 400 people, and each table will seat 10. So, if you just want to attend the two hour comedy show and dance, tickets will cost only $10 per person. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. for happy hour. Dinner will be served starting at 6:30 p.m. and the comedy theatre show will start at 8 p.m. The dance, with DJ Ron Marshall, will con- tinue until 1 a.m. This promises to be really a great evening, so, reserve early to avoid disappointment. - OBITUARY - Ernest Laverne Martyn After four years illness, La- verne died very quietly at the Community Nursing Home on April 18, 1992. He was born on Scugog Is- land, March 9, 1917 to Alex and Elva Martyn, who predeceased him. Laverne attended school at the "Head" on the island, then Port Perry High School. He left high school after suffering a broken leg in an accident, which kept him out of school for sever- al months. Eventually he took over his grandparents' farm, married in 1946 to Dorothy Williams, and they continued to farm until 1966, when he was forced to sell the farm due to health prob- lems. Always a good neighbor and friend, he enjoyed helping in every way possible in the com- munity. He was an elder in the Scugog Island Church, was sec- retary on the local school board. and also served on the Port Perry Fair Board. He enjoyed sports, baseball, hockey and lat- er curling. For two years after leaving the island farm he and his wife travelled and spent two winters in Florida. They settled in an - apartment in Port Perry, and Laverne spent the next several years with Williams Motors, re- tiring in 1980. Rev. Bob LePage conducted the funeral service at the Wagg Funeral Home, April 21. The U.C.W. served lunch at the United Church following the service. Laverne is survived by his wife Dorothy, a sister Inez Bon- ner of Scarborough, brother Harold and his wife Clara, brother-in-law Murray Wil- liams and his wife Doris, broth- er-in-law W. Melvin (Jerry) Wil- liams of Fredericton, N.B., and many dearly beloved nieces and nephews. i TAR vs af : Sn ay Oncor Tag VEC ETS Ga GCONTINENTALS Thursday, July 7 at 7 p.m. at the Emmanuel Pentecostal Church in Port Perry (across from arenal "This video is all about get- ting control of your life," says Dr. Burgess.
