"A Family Tradition for 126 Years" & KELLY LOWN/ PORT PERRY STAR The village of Epsom had lots of Canadian spirit on Saturday as many took part in a large parade celebrating Canada's125th birthday. 125 celebration a success Bethesda, Epsom and Utica celebrate Canada Day 125. The main street of Epsom was never busier than it was last Saturday, when our area celebrated with a tribute to Canada 125. About 30 bicycles, tricycles and our most beautiful children riding them led the parade with kilts swaying they were fol- lowed by the Piper, leading Be- thesda Women's Institute. There were clowns, fire en- gines and floats all celebrating Canada 125 in many themes. Antique cars, implements and tractors. We are not a one horse town, for there were three beautiful horses, with the street cleaners following. Nancy Hill models the new- est of fashions at the Straw- berry Social: a 'sack' dress with 'cap' sleeves, made from 'eye'let material. To finish the look, she's carrying her 'spring' purse and is sporting a 'feathered' hairdo. We mustn't forget our Bum- ble Bees. Every entry was pay- ing tribute to our community and nation. I hope all who had cameras caught the beautiful entries. Then to the school grounds where hot dogs and doughnuts were the order of the day. This was followed by face painting and games. Not baseball, but soccer ball, all kinds of races for the children, sack race, and many others led us to experi- ence real community together- ness. The evening at Utica was a sell out. There were about 250 packed in the hall after all had enjoyed a dessert of strawber- ries, cake, and cream, to enjoy a program, fresh and home grown. The children loved Mr. Prohoska's little dancing men, while many older ones thought our Epsom soloist was super. Let's give the Tapscott Watson duo a cheer too. The fiddlers are always most welcome and they aren't stingy with their numbers. We love them. I can't mention everyone, so | say thank you to one and all for a wonderful parade, sports, strawberry social, and contest. There were about 250 packed in the hall, they will tell you the same story. John Hansen's sister Sharon and her husband Fred Wilbee of Rapid River, Michigan are visiting the Hansen family for a couple of weeks. Bill and Melba McKay were entertaining their family this weekend. Dr. Wm McKay of Halifax and his son Benjamin of Toronto, also Bill and Mel- ba's daughter Elspeth and her husband Paul Deir and their four children of Kingston were weekend guests. Ray Munro attended the Air Show at Trenton on Sunday. Ross and Marilyn Munro, Doro- thy and Ray Munro attended the 50th wedding anniversary celebration of Claude and Betty Simmonds at Cherrydown Golf Course. The Simmonds have a sum- mer home in Glen Major. If anyone found a black bow- tie at the strawberry social, please return it to Arnold Ker- ry. Uxbridge Seniors have a bus going to Ameraflora near Co- lumbus, Ohio, Septmeber 8-11. Call Doreen Musselman at 852- 3680. There is also a bus going to Woodburne. The church service at Epsom on Sunday was well attended. What a beautiful day for an out- door service. Donna Van Veghel and several of her boys helped with the service. Tanya, Virgin- 1a Wilson and Tanya Evans also sang. Rev Jim delivered the message. A tree was planted by past and present youth groups to celebrate Canada 125. After the service, all enjoyed a barbecue lunch. On Sunday afternoon lunch- eon guests with Earl and Marie Wilson were: Ken and Dorothy Petty of Victoria Square, Bob and Mildred Braithwaite of Lindsay, Lloyd and Marion Feasby, Harry and Lois Elford of Sandford, following Decora- tion Day service at Uxbridge. Miss Beth Laughlin of Greely was a weekend guest. Elizabeth and Earl Taylor visited their daughter in Sun- dridge and her husband John Reed for a few days last week. There was a family gathering at the Health Care Centre in Uxbridge when Mrs. Gladys Evans held a special welcome home party for her grandchil- dren Linda Jaster and children and Mary Dickau of Vancouver. Linda and Mary are daugh- ters of Lawrence and Olive Wil- son of Uxbridge. W.I. noon picnic July 26 at the home of Harry and Ruth Boadway.
