a. 28 - PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, June 30, 1992 Taylor Ford Mites break out of slump On June 24, Port Perry's all- star mites travelled to Newmar- ket for a York-Durham contest. Overall our team played a tight- er style of ball and earned a 7-7 tiein a see-saw typeof game. Our team held a 3-0 lead go- ing into the fourth inning that evaporated thanks to walks, passed balls and a big Newmar- ket homer that let the hosts grab a 4-3 lead. The Taylor- Ford boys however had a big four run fifth inning of their own to take a 7-4 lead into the fi- nal inning. A combination of walks and an unfortunate error resulted in a second Newmar- ket rally to tie the game. In fact, they loaded the bases in the fi- nal inning but southpaw Bra- den Tarbotton came on in relief of starter Mark Richardson to get two key outs and prevent a home team win. Pitcher Mark Richardson had some good innings and allowed only three hits while striking out 12. A little better control to reduce base-on-balls will un- doubtedly let him get closer to his pitching potential. Several key Port Perry defen- sive "outs" were right out of our practice drills. Catcher Matt Skerratt and Mark combined for two tag outs at home while Mark and second baseman Tim Jones alertly combined to tag out a runner trying to steal sec- ond. Adam Moynes caught a key infield popup when he was working behind the plate in the final inning. Offensive contributions were made by David Justynski {two for three} and singles were hit by Aaron Lycett, Sean Jeffrey and Adam (nice bunt}, Mike Le- Fort, Mark and Braden each had a single and a walk. Chris Monsma had two walks and Matt also earned a walk in his first at bat {Matt almost got that elusive first hit on a last in- ning liner: keep trying big guy}! eep up that improving play team.
