Planning Committee discusses more Conway Place proposals By Scott Anderson Port Perry Star In the never ending saga of the Conway property, the Town- ship of Scugog Planning Com- mittee heard yet another propo- sal for the prime land at Highway 7A and Water Street. Landscape architect Dan O'Brien, whose company is rep- resenting the Michael Stuart Group, outlined its most recent plans for the property. The Michael Stuart Group has been to township council on a number of occasions over the past year with plans for the wa- terfront area. Its latest plans, presented on Monday, called for a mix of com- mercial and residential devel- opment, with the focus being the lakefront. GRADUATE JOE JACKMAN Joe Jackman, son of Jerry Jackman, Oshawa, and Jeanne Culp, Port Perry, graduated June 6, 1992 from the Accounting section of the Business Administration Course at Durham College. Joe will be continuing his education at Lakehead University, Thunder Bay, this fall. The residential component would consist of a four-storey, 120 unit overlooking the lake. A boardwalk would separate the lake from the residential compo- nent. The commercial component, covering 91,000 square feet will feature a 20,000 square foot gro- cery store, a 23,000-sq.ft. auto- motive retail store, a 4,000-sq.ft bank and a McDonald's restau- rant. The design of the entire com- plex has been planned with a co- lonial period design to retain the flavor of the downtown area, Mr. O'Brien said. The purpose of the meeting on Monday was to inform the plan- ning committee of their recent plans, said Mr. O'Brien. The GRADU ATC CHERYL L. HAYES Against all odds...on May 29, 1992 Cheryl L. It appears members of the Planning Committee found this proposal to be agreeable. Ward 1 Councillor Ken Carruthers said it appeared the designers have listened to the past con- cerns of council and put togeth- er arealisticplan. The township has heard a number of proposals over the past few years for development on the property. Cost for signs about $5,000, says councillor From Page 1 She says the signs should be consistent with other signs in the township such as the newly erected signin Palmer Park. "The sign design must reflect the community and show some consistency with what we're try- ing to do," she says. Although Councillor Pearce is in favor of the project, she ad- mits the times aren't fiscally correct for it to be undertaken. She says there will be a definite need for the various service clubs and groups to get in- volved. "It's going to take some co- operation." With the landscaping includ- ed, Councillor Pearce says the cost would be approximately $5,000 per sign. Despite the need for the signs, Councillor Pearce says it won't be rushed. "It will take a while to devel- op," she says. "If we want to do it, we must take our time and do itright." a Si copy of MIDNIGHT MADNESS storewide after 7:00pm - includes sale items! 158 Queen Street, Port Perry TRI EIS CA A £0
