"A Family Tradition for 126 Years" PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, June 23, 1992 - 37 Port Perry Stars are shining bright Seven games into their sea- son, the Port Perry Pee Wee/ Bantam girls' travelling fast- ball team (playing in the Oshawa Park league) remains undefeated, and as of yet not even seriously challenged. The scores of their victories to day, against North Oshawa, Glen Stewart, Baker, MacKen- zie and Fernhil/Nipigon Parks have been 24-14; 13-8; 21-8; 27- 5;26-1; 13-7; and 28-11. The 22-game season contin- ues until July 30, followed two weeks later by their league championship play downs. You can see our girls in action every Wednesday evening in Port Perry at 8:30 p.m. at the lake front diamond (south) and Thursday evenings at the same time in Oshawa. This talented squad is contin- uing the fine tradition of victory (they won the league champion- ship) established last year when John Langford was at the helm as the head coach. Return- ees Kim Poppleton, Juli Ball, Marci Zuly, Amy Parliament, Heidi Leach, Misty Garvock and Laurie Dale have been joined this year by Alisa Camp- bell, Melissa Dawson, Jen Hunter, Laura Phoenix, Kim Spicher and Heather Tredway. Coach Stan Zuly, with the help of Glenn Ball and Jon Daw- son, are helping the girls to polish their skills. Jay Tredway has been donating his time to improve pitching skills being learned by a number of the team members and last but not least, Wendy Poppleton has ac- cepted the responsibility of be- ing our scorekeeper. Cartwright Minor Ball T-Ball Division June 15 Blackstock Lioness - 26 H &M Wright Sox - 20 Another great game. Both teams started out strong and were tied up to the last inning. Blackstock Lioness took con- trol of the game during the last innings. Shawn McNamara played an incredible game. He caught a pop fly and also hit a "grand slam" home run. Bryan McNamara practised his slid- ing skills, scoring a run. For H & M Wright Sox, Mitch Truax started the action off with a home run in the first in- ning. Kyle Mullins also had a. home run. Blake McLaughlin had a "grand slam" home run to tie the game up in the third in- ning. June l7 Lishman's-18 H & M Wright Sox - 8 Game was rescheduled from June 8. For Lishman's, Mike Hobbs played a good solid game. Tay- lor Churchill hit a "grand slam" home run and Jason Dillon hit a double. For H & M Wright Sox, Blake McLaughlin and Kory Bauer made some really great plays. Mitch Truax stole third base. Tyke Division June 16 Asselstine Suzuki - 8 Hutton Heating - 6 This game was full of action. A great game was played by all. For Asselstine's, Michael got a home run. Sean and Kurtis each scored two runs for the team. For Hutton Heating, Chris and Ryan each got a home run and there was good consistent pitching throughout the game. Mite Division June 17 J.C.Flooring- 14 Jordan-Cully Jays - 12 For J.C. London Life Lazers- 10 Port Perry I.G.A.-9 For London Life, good hits were made by Michael S., Ryan S., Matthew W., Joey D., Cor- rine S., Grant A., Derek R., Thomas M., and Amanda D. Ex- cellent pitching and great play- ing by the infielders and out- fielders. For LG.A., fantastic plays were made by Tim B. on first. Ryan Grieve made an incredi- ble double play. Squirt Division June 16 Don Frew & Sons - 32 MKM Eggbeaters -6 For Don Frew & Sons, Josh- ua had three home runs. April and John Vanstrein made some good fly catches. For MKM Eggbeaters, Jamie Budge hit a home run. Good plays were made by all. Hits were good and excellently placed. Speedy Muffler - 27 Technique Drywall -9 For Speedy Muffler, Candace Boccaccio, Adam Stewart and Pam Goble each had home runs. Chad Muirhead had a "grand slam" home run. For Technique Drywall, Jeff had a home run. All players played well. Senior Division Junel5 Mark's Maintenance - 22 Blackstock Hardware - 2 For Mark's Maintenance, Gord Bentley had a triple and Johnathon McCourt had two home runs. Jim Chapman hit a "grand slam". A good line drive catch was made by Jason Lions. For Blackstock Hardware, Marshal McQuaid, Josh Mal- colm, Ryan Peter, Natasha Bur- gess and Derrick Malcolm all had great hits. A great relay was made from field to Adam, pitcher, to Scott, backcatcher, for an out at home. Cummings Backhoe - 23 Blackstock Lions-13 For Cummings Backhoe, Luke Martin and Scott Goble made excellent pitches. Doug Hutton made a great catch at third. For Blackstock Lions, Kirk kept Cummings Backhoe score- less during the innings in which he pitched.
