Mini soccer full of action In mini soccer on June 16, Technique Drywall shut out F.A. Slinger Transport, 4-0. Nelson Langmaid and Adam Bull provided the offence and Shelly Davies and Tara Hutch- ins were great on defence for Technique. Richard Lee, Chris- topher Spence and Wesley Cook all put in a terrific effort for Slingers, trying to spoil the shut out. In an exciting end to end game Nuts About Chocolate got the better of Fowler, Davies, winning 4-1. Tim Cruickshank scored a hat trick and Mathew Whalen finished the scoring for Nuts with a hard driven goal. Fowler, Davies were in the game all the time with Nolan Caroll getting their lone mark- er. Andrew Hale putin a fine de- fensive effort and Ashleigh Phoenix looked dangerous in at- tack. She was kept off the board by Brent Meeking who played well in goal for Nuts. Joel Ward scored twice early in the game for Manvers 1, which was enough to defeat the Framer's Gallery. Justin Cot- trell kept the score down for the Framers with good goal tending maneuvers. Patrick Dunn put in a good effort and Derek Gore- ski kept the pressure on offen- sively. On June 17, Subby's Subma- Taylor Ford Mites On June 17 Port Perry all- star rep team in the York- Durham League hosted Vau- ghan. This was the first game between the two teams this sea- son. Pitcher Mark Richardson got off to a good startin the game by striking out the first four Vau- ghan batters. The game was tightly contested through four innings and the score was 3-3 going into the fifth inning. Un- fortunately, Mark ran into con- trol problems at this point and Vaughan ended up stealing five runs without the benefit of a base hit. They went on to win the game by a 9-4 score. Some signs of defensive im- provement were evident in this game for our mites though the coaches feel the team hasn't yet reached their defensive poten- tial. Catcher Adam Moynes used a snap throw to surprise a runner on third base while In boys Squirt/Pee Wee league action on Tuesday, June 9, Techstar downed Perfect Heating by the score of 13-12. The Stars jumped to an early 2-0 lead but by the end of three innings, the score was tied at eight. In their final at-bat, the Heaters were down by four runs. Techstar made some bril- liant defensive plays and al- lowed only three runners to cross the plate. Techstar's all-stars were Chris Langford who played his best game of the season, mak- ing several key catches in the out field, a great double play at second base and going two for two at the plate. Jon Sanders Mark and third baseman Bra- den Tarbotton combined for a good forceout at third, Sean Jef- frey and Aaron Lycett capably pulled in outfield flyballs. A key step for improvement for the whole team which will help en- sure a better game outcome will be when each fielder antici- pates his play before a ball actu- ally comes his way. Port Perry's offense managed five hits and six walks off the Vaughan hurler. Michael Wise- man and Mike Lefort each had a walk and a hit. David Justyn- ski, Aaron Lycett and Darren Miller had singles. Matt Sker- ratt, Chris Monsma and Tim Jones earned "free passes" to first base. Keep doing your best guys. Remember that success comes when lady luck follows hard work. Good luck in Newmarket this week. Squirt Pee Wees who played a solid game at shortstop and made a nice "heads-up" play to end the Heaters threat of coming back in the last inning. Also for Tech- star, Danny Drebit who contrib- uted offensively with a two-run double. The all-stars for Perfect Heat- ing were Graeme Powell who hit three for three and had a good performance on the mound. Clayton Brown who also pitched well for his team. Ben Frith who had a good defen- sive game playing catcher and Trevor MacSween who went two for two, including a solo home run. rine just edged out Scugog Lum- ber, 1-0. Danny Halward kicked in the winner for Subbys. Brit- tany Zochodne and Jamie-Lynn Cybulski kept the pace fast and honorable mention goes to Cameron O'Connor for his en- deavor. The score might have been much higher but for great net minding by Mark Forderer and Duncan Pringle for Scugog Lumber. Christopher Charron and Amanda Barchuk each played a strong defensive game as well. Re/Max Realty and Manvers 2 played to a 0-0 draw in a very exciting game where goal tend- ing proved to be the key for both teams. Justin McGill and Dylan Charland gave their all for Manvers. Daniel Bois, Caylie Gilmore and Rhona Scott each made some fantastic stops in net for Re/Max.
