Cabinets of Oshawa by a4-3 score. Doug Hughes pitched six in- nings before Ken Goreski came in, in relief. John Hill, Bill St. John and Hugh Johnston led the way in hitting. The Grant Menzies Pee Wee baseball team won four straight games keeping their undefeated streak intact. The team defeated Manilla 11-6, Woodville 20-5 and Lindsay by a 21-4 score. Larry Elson was the star of the Lindsay game with two home runs, one a grand slam. He also added a triple. 1SYEARS AGO WEDNESDAY, JUNE 22,1977 The Port Perry Minor Softball Association held its annual booster night. During the day there was a parade which teams from the T-ball, squirt, bantam, pee wee and midget levels took part. After the pa- rade the T-ball athletes stole the show as they dem- onstrated the finer points of the sport. The Pee Wee baseball team had a tough week los- ing two games, one to Stouffville 13-6 and the other to Claremont by a 7-4 decision. The Midgets squeaked by Sunderland with a one run win. Rick Young led the hitting parade with four, Mike Healey had two and Greg Fedyk, Bill Owen, Tim Kane, Dennis Franssen and Kevin Walker had one hit apiece. 10 YEARS AGO TUESDAY, JUNE 22,1982 The Port Perry Legion Squirt softball team de- feated Oak Ridges by a 9-5 score. Knocking out sin- gles were Brad Menzies, Blair Bailey, John Lally and Steve Connors. The two teams met again in an- other match with Port coming out on top 6-2. Ray- mond Shier started on the mound giving up two walks and striking out three. The Grade 6 boys softball team from R.H. Cor- nish won the Central Durham Tournament for the second year in a row. Team members included Phil McBride, Dean Goudie, Robbie Brown, Brad Men- zies, Warren Geer, John Lally, Shawn Nanay, Jeff Oke, Blair Bailey, Stacey Ballingall, Mark Hansen and Andrew Steele. The Virgin Island fastball team came to Port Perry. The team was hosted by the Goreski Fastball team of Oshawa. During their stay they competed against the Greenbank Gamblers. Warren McNeil of R.H. Cornish was one of 120 competitors at the Ontario Special Olympics swim meet held in Guelph. He received a gold medal in the 25 m butterfly, a silver in the 25 m backstroke and a bronze medal in the 25 m breast stroke. The Port Perry Tennis Club received a $1,500 - grant for resurfacing of the municipality-owned courts on Water Street. Several local soccer players have made the move to higher calibre teams.
