"A Family Tradition for 126 Years" PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, June 23, 1992 - 23 OBITUARY Minnie Irene Wilson, a long time resident of Sunderland died June 1, 1992 at the South Muskoka Hospital in Brace- bridge in her 956th year. Minnie was born in Sandford on March 14, 1898 and was the eldest child of Thomas and Mary Jane Moore. She attended Peterborough Normal School and taught in the Zephyr, Gwil- limbury and Vroomanton are- as. On July 21, 1924 she mar- ried John Herbert (Herb) Wilson who died March 30, 1966 at age 76. Their only daughter Norma Jean died Sep- tember 4, 1978 at age 46. They lived briefly at Red Deer, Alber- ta, Toronto and Islington before coming to Sunderland where for many years they operated the Independent Telephone Office, also an apiary. Minnie was one of the early members of the Sunderland chapter of the Order of the East- ern Star and received their 55 year pin in April, 1989. She attended Sunderland United Church and gave freely of her time and services to the church and church groups as well 'as to such community groups as the fair, arena and school. Her last years were primarily spent with her brother Cecil and his family at Bracebridge. Seven years ago she decided to move into the Pines Centre for seniors at Bracebridge where she resided until her death. She spoke well of the Pines and of the services that she knew were always there if she needed them in her declining years. Her failing sight and hearing were of great concern as she en- joyed reading, writing and fol- lowing the news. Her letters were a joy to receive. Her memo- ry remained keen until the end. She basically managed her af- fairs and never failed to ask about nieces and nephews and never forgot a name. She was predeceased by three sisters: Margaret Miller, Della Luke and Lila Shier. Survived by four brothers: Frank of Ux- bridge, William of Newmarket, Gordon of Port Perry and Cecil of Bracebridge.
