Recently, Lawrence and Gwendolyn Malcolm of Nestle- ton, attended the Baptism Ser- vice for their grandson Paul Stanley, son of Barry and Joan Malcolm of Simcoe. They also visited Arnot and Mary Van Nest of Brantford. On holiday Monday, Law- rence and Gwen held a family barbecue to honor their niece, Captain Michelle Claveau who 18 visiting Canada for six weeks before returning to her job as an Air Control Officer with the Ca- nadian Forces in Germany. Mi- chelle and her husband will re- turn to Canadain 1994. On Saturday, May 23, a wed- ding dance was held in Nestle- ton Community Centre for Lana Malcolm and Andrew Co- ghill following their marriage in Yelverton Church. Best wishes go with you from the Nestleton Community! Lewis and June Kent of Sun- dridge were Friday overnight guests with Norman and Ber- nice Mairs of Fleetwood Trailer Park, Janetville. So good to see them and have a visit! Roy and Doris Nottingham of Caesarea, had a pleasant sur- prise recently when Mr. and Mrs. Mervin House from Stan- ley, Tasmania, came to have a visit with them...folks they had met in Australia six years ago. Also, Florida friends Lon Smith of Seaforth, Ontario, and Ilene Lince of Buckhorn, visited with the Nottinghams on Sunday. The S. Cawkers of Scugog Pt. Rd., enjoyed a visit with Marg. Cornish during the week and glad Marg. is improving in health. Also, a little time was spent with Alan and Eleanor Cawker at their lovely home in Oshawa. Nestleton Presbyterian Church The morning service was con- ducted by Rev. Wm. Fairley, with Joyce Taylor playing the organ. The responsive Psalm was No. 97 and the scripture readings were from Daniel 7 and Revelations 22. The book of the Bible for this week for the Sunday School was Titus...and was illustrated by a picture of Jesus with the children. Rev. Fairley spoke on the day of the Ascension when the disci- ples were given the Great Com- mission to go and preach...remembering "The Lord Reigneth." Holy Communion will be held on Sunday,June2lat11a.m. Nestleton United Church The friendly greeters at the morning service were Tom and Wilma Wotten for the 11:15 a.m. service on Sunday, May 31. The service was conducted by Lawrence Malcolm with Karen Yellowlees organizing the wor- ship. The choir number "Walk With Me" was nicely sung with Karen at the piano. Carol Mairs prepared the children's theme...a happy time for the youngsters with a story based on "Actions Speak Louder Than Words." Guest speaker Andrew Kniewasser from Blackstock congregation was introduced by Lawrence Malcolm and wel- comed by the worshippers. His Calder receives MVP award Robinglade women's group enjoyed their recent annual last meeting "Games Night" at San- die Jonah's home. Although only a few actually played cards, everyone enjoyed the eve- ing. Winner of the money draw was Kate MacDonald. Four oth- er members,Christiane, Joyce, Sabina and yes, me, went home with draw gift bags. The group goes to Amadeus Steak and Seafood for their annual dinner outing on June 9 (Tuesday). Reservations are for 7 p.m. Congratulations to Alan Calder who was awarded M.V.P. for the second consecu- tive year on his midget rugby team from Paul Dyer High School in Oshawa. A memorial service was held at Millar memorial Church on Saturday following the spring burial of the late Rev. Donald Darrell. A basket of flowers was placed in the church on Sunday in his memory. The Sunday School anniver- sary was led by George Hill on Sunday morning with several of the children taking part. Alexis Stevenson played "Frere Jacques" on the piano. Used clothing & footwear for children up to age 10 (adult clothing also accepted) can be dropped off at Port Perry IGA - Queen St. or at A. Oppers numbers; "Jesus Loves Me" and "Jesus Loves The Little Chil- dren". John Cavers , the "Illu- sionist" held the children's in- terest with his magic tricks which he related to Bible vers- es. He also played his banjo and guitar as he sang a few songs. John lives in Uxbridge and teaches in North York. The Seagrave Church will be closed June 7 and 14 to enable the congregation to attend the Sunday School anniversary ser- vice at Greenbank and Pinedale Churches. Next Sunday, June 7, will be the Greenbank service. All are welcome and urged to attend this service, which is at 11 a.m. At this time the Sunday School will present production entitled "Noah". The Seagrave U.C.W. will meet on Wednesday, June 10, 8 p.m. at the home of Jean Nod- well (Port Perry). Ladies are re- minded to take their Bible. District Annual Hosted By Shirley Branch Shirley W.I. Branch "hosted" the Ontario South Women's In- stitute District Annual, held in Myrtle United Church on May 28, 1992. Louella Lewis, district president chaired the day long meeting, assisted by secretary Betty Reader and treasurer Bonnie Gerrow. Muriel Wotten of Shirley Branch extended the welcome to members and guests. Provincial board direc- tor Grace McCallum, Sharon, presented an indepth report of Nestleton, Caesarea by Mabel Cawker Provincial board proceedings held in April. The noon meal served at 12 o'clock was enjoyed by all, and guests were intro- duced from the five dis- tricts...York West, York North, York Centre, York East and On- tario North. PRO Lillian Harp- er was the excellent pianist for the day. Historical Society Meeting The Sam Cawkers were pleased to attend the Historical Society Meeting on Thursday evening held at the Head Me- morial Church on Scugog Is- land to hear the guest speaker Gary Edgar, Economic Develop- ment Officer, Mississaugas of Scugog First Nations who spoke on the history, present status, and future of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nations. The meeting was chaired by Paul Arculus, president, and he introduced the speaker. After giving the history - and present status - Gary presented a great picture of the future in store for the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation. Gary was thanked by secretary Grace Hastings. We were anx- ious to meet Gary after and have a word with him...as we knew him when he was a young- ster...chumming with one of our boys at school. It all brought back warm memories!
