"This is a special honor for us, because we are the first people to receive the Lescarbot award," Mrs. Millar said. The Government of Canada's Department of Communica- tions instituted the Lescarbot awards earlier this year to pay tribute to those Canadians who support the cultural sector. Mrs. Hastings was born in Port Perry, and has lived in the Scugog area all her life. She was a music teacher and supervisor for many years, and has also directed and organized many choirs, musical events and concerts in the Scugog area.
