Nestleton Women's Institute Annual Meeting On Wednesday, April 1, the Nestleton Branch met at the home of Neta Fish for the annual meeting with president Rika Wygerde in the chair. She brought the meeting to order with a poem "The Farmer's Fate" followed by the Ode and Col- lect. Pleased to have Gwendolyn Malcolm back after a winter holiday in Florida. Minutes and treasurer's report were given by secretary-treasurer Neta Fish and members were reminded of the District Annual which will be held in Solina on May 6. The May meeting of Nestleton Branch will be held a week later, May 13. The 4-H Achievement Award night is April 21 at 7 p.m. in Blackstock United Church, the - by Mabel Cawker ~ J Ra EE Vine X R88 Nestleton Branch providing prizes for the four Nestleton girls. The speaker re - 'Local Indian Tribes" will be Terry Boyle. The W.I. exhibit at Orono Fair is Sweet Sixteen - to be discussed later. The June W.IL. booth in Bowmanville Mall is to be a publicity event to attract new members to join in community work. The Branch Annual meeting followed with Neta reading last years minutes. The auditor's report was presented. The roll call was the payment of dues, and hints for pro- gram ideas. Public Relations Of- ficer Winnifred Davison gave the yearly report, and the curator's report by Gwen Malcolm, and Rika and the resolutions report with no resolutions for last year, and pro- gram co-ordinator"s report was given. The slate of officer's report was read by Bertha McLaughlin for 1992-93 and the election and installa- tion was conducted by Winnifred Davison. Lone hands to Helen Brown. 50/ 50 draw won by Mary Poops. Lucky door prize winner was Evelyn Dennis. Next euchre will be Thursday, April 9 at the Ashburn Community Centre at 8 p.m. Everyone welcome. Lois Daw has returned home from hospital, and recuperating nicely following her recent sur- gery. Jim Lynde underwent sur- gery aweek ago at Oshawa Gen- eral and I understand is well enough to soon come home. Muriel Fisher, Catherine and Ernie Humphrey attended a memorial service last Saturday for the late Frank Mitchell of Deep River, his wife Margaret (nee Fisher) and family. Jim and Elaine Ewing of ~at Orangeville visited with Elaine's parents Theo and Joan Knight on Sunday. Grant and Sheila Parrott travelled to Belleville last Wednesday, visiting with Shei- la's mother, Mrs. Annie Hamil- ton. Doug and Florence Ashton visited with Cecil and Jean Vic- ars of Fergus recently, also vis- iting with Ruth Purdy of Or- ganeville. The top bowlers were Ray Porter, Joan Knight, Joan Fleming and Ross Batten. As someone said, we should do this more often. Ashton's Double Fool's Day Dance will be held on Saturday, April 11 from 8 p.m. until 1 a.m. the Thunderbird Golf Course. Tickets $25 a couple and $13 for a single. This is an -annual fundraiser for the Ash- burn Community Centre. Hot roast beef on a bun, door prizes, disc jockey etc. For further in- formation contact Moyra Dob- son at 655-3904. Hospital Auxiliary Spring Fair The annual hospital Spring Fair will be held at Latcham Centre on Saturday, April 18 from 11 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. and a noon luncheon will be a feature. Nestleton Newsworthy Items Don and Norma Frew of Nestleton arrived home from Lakeland, Florida, on Saturday. They had a good winter but a bit cool at times. They enjoyed golf and many other activities. Welcome home folks! Welcome home to Lawrence and Gwendolyn Malcolm of Nestleton from Zephyshills, Florida. They had a fine winter with plenty of activity to keep life interesting. Enroute home they stayed over- night in Simcoe with Barry and Joan Malcolm and granddaughter Emi- ly and new grandson Paul Stanley, born March 14. A bonny wee fellow! Sam and Mabel Cawker of Nestleton, enjoyed an interesting visit with son Grant Cawker of Oshawa and a tasty lunch, then later in the day they had a lovely dinner with son Alan and Eleanor Cawker, also of Oshawa. Monday, April 6, was Cliff Davis' birthday, and a wish for Cliff - a real good friend to the Cawker family, in sO many ways! Dale Davis conducted the Lent V service with a splendid message re - "The Prodigal Son" based on scripture lessons from Luke 15, read by Carla Davis. The book of the week Ephesians - for the Sunday School story, is a book of letters to the Ephesians to guide them - as if putting each part Daffodil Day raised $3,000 for Cancer Society of a puzzle in place making a com- plete picture. Psalm 126 was read responsively and scripture reading was Isaiah 43 and John 12. Joyce Taylor was the organist using Lenten and Easter hymns from the former book of praise.
