Several guest speakers talked to about 30 individuals in the museum's Head Church. One of the speakers was Mark |. Jackman, curator of the Clarke Museum and Archives in Newcastle. Mr. Jackman, pictured with an antique coffin, spoke on Victorian funeral customs and practices. Teen dances to resume at Latcham Centre soon Teen dances will be back shortly at the Latcham Centre says Ward 2 Councillor Marilyn Pearce. Teen dances were suspended earlier this year after concern was raised about the organizing of such events. An ugly incident involving a dance at the Mason- ic Hall in late February sped up the review process. At a recent council meeting Councillor Pearce presented a proposal on behalf of the Parks and Recreation Committee which suggested the establish- ment of a teen and parent board to look into the planning of the dances. The idea was to form a teen club. But since the meeting on March 30, the new Optimist Clubin Port Perry has offered to take over the responsibility and has offered to sponsor such events. Councillor Pearce said they would be meeting with the group shortly to come to some agreement. Councillor Pearce said she was pleased by the Optimist's decision to come forward and of- fer help. "We are happy that they will involved," she said. "We are try- ing to give the dances back to the kids."
