SALES & SERVICE 4 Scugog Lumber defeats Whitby Auto Wreckers to win Atom championship Scugog Lumber captured the Atom house league champion- ship Friday, March 27 to go along with their first place fin- ish. It was a hard fought contest against arch-rivals Whitby Auto Wreckers. Whitby opened the scoring in the first on a a shot by Paul Brain which hand- cuffed goalie Tom Keeble, as- sisted by John Sanders. Jona- thon Reed tied the score in the second period assisted by Chris Orr and Adam Mahaffy. Spen- cer Bedell scored on a breaka- way on a hard shot along the ice, assisted by Travis Pickard and Alex Bedell to give Scugog the lead. Mark Sauter upped the count by two on a rebound from Travis and Chris. Mark then seemed to catch fire as he opened the third on a nice goal set up by Travis and Jared Painter. Mark then notched his hat trick on an as- sist from Mark Delaney, to close out the scoring. This game was played end to end throughout and was a lot closer than the score indicated. Sucgog 5, Whitby Team play pays off Coldwell Petites claim league championship Heading to Scarborough Sun- day for our league champion- ship final was a formidable challenge but Port's Coldwell Banker Petites were up to the task. All previous five encounters were won by Scarborough, their over confidence being their un- doing. Jennifer Hammond (our goalie) let in the first shot early but this goal only served to get - her back up and her stick on the ice. She played her best game of the year in this 6-3 victory. The clout combination of Ja- nine Hammond and Diane Van- derligt provided three goals. Jennifer Elliot's trip to Florida hasn't slowed her down as she provided a couple of assists, val- uable checking and two pi- routtes to dazzle the opposition. Our defensive dynamos, Jen- nifer Imrie with Janna Senyk and Lauren Christie with Brooke Shanley were relentless in protecting our lead. Each duo checked hard and kept shooting the ring up and off the boards to our feisty forwards Cathy Coop- er, Lisa LeFort and Jennifer Donnelly. These blue sticks wasted no time passing to their partners Pam Hiltz and Leanne Holt. Pam continues to impress us with her dig and dig again that paid off in two goals this game. Our girls won this season's league championship because of earnest practice, team play and fan support. Janine Ham- mond accepted the first ever 401 League trophy and deserv- ingly so as she scored three goals and assisted on two more. Central Region's "B&C" cham- pionships next weekend will wrap up our 1991-1992 season. The Country Lane Petites are hoping to put it together and bring home a banner for their hometown arena. Congratulations to our Nov- ice C and Junior B Ringette teams. These girls too have won league championships for the town of Port Perry. We had to use imports on Sunday. Brian Shanley and daughter Brooke drove in from Buffalo to make this game! Mul- ti thanks from the team. The Coldwell Banker Petites won the league championship this weekend.
