a SL "A Family Tradition for 125 Years" PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, March 31, 1992 - 25 RT The Port Perry ModJacks knocked Ernestown out of the playoffs putting the MoJacks that much closer to the all- Ontario crown. ModJacks advance From Page 26 the goal crease and the goal was disallowed. The ModJacks tied up the game at the 12:54 mark of the period. After a face-off deep in the Ernestown end of the rink, Coulson won the draw cleanly and Cornish whistled the puck past a bewildered Scott Abrams in the Jets' cage. Less than three minutes lat- er, Abrams became tangled up between players behind his net. Lally managed to scoop out the puck and steer it into the empty goal for an unassisted marker. This play sparked a minor brawl behind the net, resulting in fighting majors and game misconduct penalties for Mo- Jacks' defenceman Trevor McIntyre and Jets' Captain Brandon Coleman. And Port Perry ended up short-handed for the next five minutes. And then a minute later, Brain Shelfoon was called for tripping, leaving the ModJacks two men short. The Jets took advantage of the situation with Mike Buda- rick finally beating a besieged Marc Dekker. Cornish, with his second goal Atoms in From Page 26 playing them. The ref's called a penalty shot at 5:13 which gave Huntsville some momentum and Hunts- ville scored to go ahead 3-2. Port took the play right back down the ice into the Huntsville zone and made the Huntsville goalie do some quick calisthenics. Port had the pres- sure on and tightening the screws when Huntsville took off up the ice on a breakaway in on the Port goalie and scores to take a4-2lead. Port was play- of the night, assisted by Lally, gave the MoJacks the lead once again with another long siz- zling slapshot. But some 40 seconds later, Brian Sambirsky evened the score again and the clubs went to the dressing room dead- locked at three goals apiece. But the second and third peri- ods belonged to the ModJacks. Shelfoon scored at 9:49 of the second from Menzies and Ver- non while Ernestown was two men short; then it was Coulson from Erickson and McKay at 10:01, and Brett Puckrin from Vernon and Menzies with only six seconds left to play in the middle stanza. McKay scored the only goal of the third period during a power play, assisted by Coulson and Cornish.
