Win series four games to one ModJacks win three straight By Al Bailey The Port Perry MoJacks have earned the right this week to advance to the semi-finals of the Ontario Hockey Association Junior 'C' playoffs. A 7-0shutout over Ernestown Sunday night in the Scugog Arena eliminated the Jets four games to one in the quarter- final Now the MoJacks will face the Staynor Siskins in a best-of- seven affair and the winner of this series will advance to the all-Ontario championship round. The Siskins defeated Orangeville in four straight games. Romp To Victory Clair Cornish lit the light for the only goal of the first period in Sunday night's romp over the Ernestown Jets. It was his 16th goal in playoff action this year, and later in the second frame he scored his 17th. His linemates Mike Goulson and Scott Erick- son collected assists on both goals. And Erickson had a marvel- lous night in the scoring depart- ment, cashing in with three goals to go along with his pair of assissts. Scott's first goal was a wrap- around from behind the Jets net after only 44 seconds had elapsed in the second period. His second was a power-play ef- fort, assisted by Coulson and de- fenceman Gavin Cochrane, and he completed the hat trick with the only goal scored in the third period. Peter Young, from Kevin Bag- shaw and Mark McKay, and Jim Vernon, from Frank Kava- nagh and John Lally, rounded out the MoJacks scoring attack. Marc Dekker once again got the startin goal for the MoJacks and made several scintillating saves to earn the shutout. Dek- ker played all five games of this series and one has to wonder why Ian Cooper, who was in- strumental in helping the team reach the all-Ontario play- downs, has yet to get the call. Game Four Saturday night's encounter in Ernestown was evenly matched in the first period with a goal apiece. And until the 18:10 mark of the second it was tied at three goals each. But at that point the MoJacks suddenly came alive and scored three goals within a minute and 29 seconds to break the game wide open. Then they hit for three more unanswered goals in the third period to come away with a 9-3 victory and a strong- hold on the series. Jim Vernon was the big gun in this contest with three goals and two assists. Cornish added a pair of goals, and single mark- ers were fired by Erickson, Lal- ly, Brad Menzies and Dan Slug- gett. Turning Point With the series tied at one game apiece going into the third game at home last Thurs- day night, this match proved to be the turning point for theMo- Jacks. Mark Flanigan opened the "to advance to semi-finals scoring for the Jets before two minutes had gone by in the first period. And they just missed taking a two-goal advantage two minutes later, but one of the Ernestown players was in Turn to Page 27 Malmont Atom As lose in championship of Buffalo tournament Game One Port Perry 11, Westmoreland Pennsylvania 0.
