Good crowd at soccer sign up The Scugog Youth Soccer Club had an excellent re- sponse to its registration held on the weekend. Registration was held at the YMCA building on Fri- day evening, Saturday and Sunday. An official with the club said more than 60 youths were signed up on Friday evening alone. Anyone unable to register their child on the weekend, may do so by attending the late registration March 27- 28 at the YMCA building. The cost of registration prior to April 7 is $40 per player or $100 for three players within the same family. After that date, the cost increases to $50 per playeror $120 family rate. McCrae earns hat trick IGA Juniors defeat Pickering Jrs. 6-1 Game four of the playoffs, bet- ween the IGA Juniors and the Pickering Juniors, was held on home ice Saturday night. Port took command of the ring at the blast of the whistle. Kyla McCrae picked up the ring, passed it over to Vicki Stainton and our first goal was scored within the first minute of the game. Lindsay Patton scored the next two goals with assists from Lin- da Payne. At the end of the first half the score was 3-0 for Port. Exactly one minute into the se- cond half Julie Ball passed the ring over to Kyla McCrae. The rest is history as goal four was scored. Four minutes later Heather Lally steered the ring over to Kyla and goal five was scored. The Pickering fans cheered as their team struck and scored, putting them on the scoreboard. Kyla was hot for another goal, so with the assistance of Vicki she socred again earning a hat trick. Two of our regular players, Sarah Coyne and Deanna Dempsey are overseas presently with the girls 4 D. J. Taylor Bonspiel field hockey team. Three Tweens moved up to play on our team, namely Bonnie Jo Norton, Linda Payne and Jenny Storms. Coach Dan was pleased with the victory, 6-1 but our winning streak didn't last for long! Sunday morning's game was a different story; our girls found this early morning game more than they bargained for. The game was held at Malvern Arena against the Scar- boro Tweens. Two new players, - brought up from the Tween B team, were added to our line-up, namely Alechia Cracknell and Melissa Dawson. Amy Sinclair played in net for both of these games, displaying - her goaltending abilities so ad- mirably. At the end of the first half the score was 2-0 for Scarboro. Alechia Cracknell, Heather Lally and Lindsay Patton each scored one goal with the latter two players ear- ning assists as well. Vicki also assisted with a goal. The game end- ed with a loss for Port, 3-6. Monday night's game (March 9) is against Richmond Hill and is the final playoff game. Port Perry Curling Club was the scene of the 10th Annual D. J. Taylor Insurance Bonspiel Saturday night. The mixed open Bonspiel attracted fourteen teems to compete for the coveted trophy and prizes. Wesley also won a trophy for high single when he bowled a 167. Youth bowlers win trophies at recent tournaments Youth bowling is nearing the end of its season, which means tournament time. Members who qualified during the first eight weeks of 1992 respresent- ed Port Perry at the regional fi- nals held on Feb. 23. Competing at this event were Derek Campbell and Sara McHale as the single boys and single girls reps. The Bantam boys team consisted of Robert Arskey, Devon Symes, Jason Behling, Chris Elaschuk and Todd Mitchell. The Bantam girls team mem- bers were Cassie Behling, Man- di Coates, Ashleigh Flieler, Dev- lyn Faulkner and Pam Klinkenberg. The Junior boys team was made up of Rodney Grennough, Owen St. John, Jason Lown, Drew Tromans and Justin Sheehey. Port Perry teams improve their standings every year. This year's highlight was Derek Campbell's outstanding play which took place at Centennial Lanes. He competed against bowlers from Oshawa, Peterbo- rough and Bancroft. He placed third out of 13, only six pins from second place. His high game out of five was 238. On March 1, a team of Pee Wee boys and girls (ages six and under) attended an invitational tournament at North End Bowl in Oshawa. All the youngsters had fun. The girls team was comprised of Jadelyn Blair, Shawna Blair, Shannon Deer- ing, Becky Delore and Erin Geary. The boys team included Michael Elaschuk, Adam Jo- hansen and Wesley Beattie from Port Perry who were teamed with two boys from Oshawa. Not only did the boys place fourth out of 18 teams, but Wes- ley Beattie received the first place trophy for high single of the day, 167, congratulations Wesley.
