Don't get lost in those many rooms. Welcome to the community is extended to John and Gail McMara and their sons Shawn and Bryan who moved from Courtice to the Martyn home. Mark and Linda Shaw and family have moved into their new home on the location where their former was burned in the fall. Don and Shirley Gibson and family attended the wedding of Shirley's niece Kim Dowson and Craig McFadden on Saturday, Feb. 29. Welcome to this area is extended to Kim and Craig as they are moving into an apart- ment in the Neil Malcolm apart- ments south of the village. Plans are underway for cele- brations for Canada's 125 birth- day this year. The Kinsmen's giant flag will be coming to Scu- gogon April 250onit's trip across Canada. There will be a flag fly- ing contest, ward by ward in Scugog for July 1. For house- holders wishing to be part of this celebration there will be a central location to buy flags. Sorry to learn of the passing of Cartwright native Norman Mahaffy in Ottawa a couple of weeks ago from a massive heart attack. Without a doubt the tragic murder of his grand- daughter Leslie Mahaffy last fall in the Welland area played a part in the deterioration of Norman's health. There was a fine crowd for the World's Day of Prayer held on Friday afternoon at the St. John's Anglican Church. Helen Green was chairman for the very meaningful service in which members from the vari- n Blackstock and area ous churches of Cartwright par- ticipated. Michelle Bull was guest speaker who gave those in attendance much to think about, caring for our earth, touching on many environmen- tal issues. The ladies of St. John's served refreshments fol- lowing the service when a social time was enjoyed. The Blackstock 4 H Senior Club met for their first meeting on Feb. 18, 1992 with 11 girls present. The project "Our Heri- tage" led into a discussion on our historical roots and family traditions. We watched a film on how people settled in Scugog Township narrated byJoel Al- dred of Scugog Island. We moved to the kitchen to make old fashioned apple cider and Dixie Dandy cookies. Our lead- ers discussed the heritage crafts we are going to do, a smocked Christmas ornament and a piece of folk art painting. Before leaving for home we elected our officers as follows: Presidents - Laura Gilbank and Sharlene Kyte, Secretary - Jen- nifer Arbuckle and Press Re- porter Jenn Byers. On March 3, 12 Senior 4 H Club members met at Black- stock United Church for their second meeting. After the 4 H Pledge and a short business meeting we walked to Gini Mas- terson's to paint our folk art heart project. When we finished we left for home. Next week we startour smocking. Annual Meeting at Harmony United Church. Dr. Anne Squire was the guest speaker in the evening. Then on Friday, Eileen Hodgins and [lean Pugh took part in the World's Day of Prayer at the Emmanuel Pentecostal Church along with others from area churches. a Garry and Laura Burgess had a large family gathering at their home following the baptism of their son Wesley Bryce at the Prince Albert United Church on Sunday, March 1. Thursday evening was the week- ly euchre. It was nice to have some back from the south and also the ones who haven't been feeling well. The winners: Myrtle Gimblett, Elsie Forbes, Merle St. John, Clarence Butson, Jim Redman, James Emerton. Draws: Pearl Gostick, Elsie Forbes and Merle St. John. People seem to be on the move, some have just returned from holidays and others are just going as school break is coming up next week. Terry and Karen Hockley and family spent two weeks in Florida. Jim and Beth Willis have been in California. On Saturday evening Feb. 24, Craig McFadden and Kim Dowson were married in Port Perry United Church, followed by a reception in the Immaculate Conception Hall. Congratulations to this happy couple. The ladies are collecting Campbell Soup labels (just the front part with the name Campbell's and soup brand). 1,300,000 labels have been collected but need one million to buy a van. Please help.
