With a win and two losses this was a must win game and with such a determined effort on the ice from both teams this game was not decid- - ed until the last 26 seconds. This game started with Napanee scoring midway through the first period with Port catching up early in the second on a goal by Scott Sanderson. Assisting was Nick Pelyk and Adam Brain. Port brief- ly took the lead when Chris Jones passed the puck to Scott Sanderson who made good on it. Also assisting was Adam Brain. Napanee shortly returned the attack and neatly tied it up. Five minutes later Napanee earn- ed the go-ahead goal. Not to be out- done, Port again tied it up when for the second time Chris beat the defense and found himself making a great pass to Scott who scored his third goal of the game earning a hat trick. Also assisting was Brad Monsma. But it didn't end there as Napanee went ahead once again, only to have Scott come back and take his fourth goal of the game, assisted by Glenn McCready. Way to go, Scott! A tie was once again at stake and Port was considering overtime when Napanee hit pay dirt at the 26 se- cond mark and dashed any hopes the fans had at seeing overtime. However, the Port players made every attempt to score as Port pull- ed the goalie and sent out the exfra attacker. Port controlled the play and several shots were taken but Napanee's goalie was quick to shut Port down. The final score was 5-4 for Napanee. A great effort was made by every member of the team throughout the series. Many thanks to Blayne Kin- nunen for filling in on the line up. Please recycle this newspaper A team of curlers from R. H. Eaglettes manage 5-5 draw with Whitby team Following a tournament in Oshawa in which the girls gave their best physically, mentally and emotionally to earn the sil- ver medal, the XL. Gas Bar Ea- glettes were asked to again come up with another outstand- ing effort on Monday night against a rested Whitby 2 team. Port went ahead in a tight checking game that allowed nei- ther team to develop any flow in their game. Nicole Virtue got the opener on a three-way pass- ing play started by Julia Lea- man to Melissa Hooker who fed Nicole. ' Leanne Layzell started the next goal when she moved the ring to Leanne Davison who set up Melissa to give Port a 2-0 lead. Working hard all the time Stacey Cunningham dug the ring out and fed Julia and the lead was 3-0. Near the end of the first peri- od Whitby broke the shutout and the edge fell off of Port's game. Whitby worked to a 5-3 lead before Melissa evened the score to complete her hat trick. Julia assisted on both of these goals to give her a hat trick in assists. Stacey assisted on the tying goal for her second of the game. In a game that turned into a struggle Port managed a 5-5 tie. Five games in four days showed but the girls toughed it out giv- ing their best. The team now has a two week layoff before its next and most important playoff game against the power- ful Whitby 1 squad. A win would all but assure us a berth in the league championship fi- nal.
