IGA Juniors win game four of the playoffs The Port Perry IGA Juniors won game four in the playoffs against the Ajax Home Hard- ware team, giving the team two wins and one logs. Game one is being rescheduled and will be played at a future date. At the beginning of the game the play was centered in front of our net giving our goalie Amy ~ Sinclair the chance to show her blocking abilities. Ajax's J. Green had a perfect chance to score and slipped the first goal in three minutes into the game. A minute and a half later Lind- say Patton picked up the ring on a pass from Sarah Coyne and scored, tying up the game. Ajax scored again giving the fans and players cause for concern but not for long. Lindsay picked up the ring, passing it over to Kyla McCrae. Kyla made a pass over to Sarah and Voila - our second goal was scored. Going into the second half, with a score of 2-2, we outplayed the Ajax team in spite of our many penalties. Deanna Demp- sey scored the third goal with assistance in passing from Heather Lally and Lisa Dodd. Again Ajax struck evening up the score. Lindsay passed the ring over to Kyla and the tie was broken as McCrae gave us the fourth goal. Jenna Norton and Vicki Stainton picked up a lot of the passes and played an instrumental part in keeping theringin the Ajax zone. Again Kyla picked up the ring, giving a demonstration of team effort as a pass to Sarah netted us goal number five. Jen- na picked up the ring within the last minute of play, made a pass over to Denna and the final goal was scored. The game ended 6-3 in our favor. Those who kept the seat warm in the 'sin bin' were Heather, Lisa, Julie Ball and Lindsay. The third tournament of the season is this weekend in Jordan and game five of the playoffs is scheduled for March 7 on home ice against Pickering. good luck in Jordan team! Re/Max Novice team had a busy week The Re/Max Novice hockey team had a busy weekend on the ice which started off with a gritty 1-1 tie against their league rival Port Perry Print- ing. The next day they travelled to Ops to compete in their Nov- ice B tournament. The team fed off the momen- tum gained from their excellent showing against "PPP" to start off the day with a 4-2 victory over Sutton. The first period ended in a 1-1 tie with Chris Medford scoring an unassisted marker for Re/Max. The puck see-sawed from end-to-end in the second period but the score remained deadlocked at 2-2 with Gerard Timmers setting up a Matthew Cracknell goal. In the third period goalie Car- ey Clyendert was equal to every occasion and the Re/Max squad turned their level of intensity up a notch to score twice more for the win. Centre Trevor Weis- flock notched both goals with assists by Sean Williams and Gerard. BDAYIVIONILD Unfortunately, the next task was to face the Uxbridge B Rep team. Our lads were excited at the prospect of this challenge and played terrifically through the first period which was score- less. In particular Joseph Far- quharson and Tim Jones played well from their blue-line posi- "tions and Ryan Kehoe (a birth- day yesterday), Mike Milligan, Beau Jolicoeur and Corey McQuade all tried their hard- est. Centre Matt Skerratt was also skating well and doing a good "shadow" job on his oppos- ing centre. The Uxbridge team took ad- vantage of some tired legs and clearing difficulties to win the next two periods however, and won 4-0. Undoubtedly our players will learn from this en- counter and combined with a lit- tle better positional play in our territory, we will be even more competitive in our future games. Good weekend team!
