Now, more than a dec- ade since he sold the Toronto- based business, he's offering an insurance policy of a different nature. Mr. Van Schelven is now Rev. Van Schelven. The journey from insurance salesman to a Masters of Divini- ty -- a prerequisite to becoming a minister in the Christian Re- formed faith --was along, yet re- warding, experience. The Van Schelven family moved to Grand Rapids, Michi- gan, where Rev. Van Schelven attended four years of Bible col- lege and one year at a seminary. The family then moved to Belleville were Rev. Van Schel- ven completed a two-year in- ternship. After the internship, he re- turned to Grand Rapids to com- plete the final two years of his course. During that time, he was separated from his family. The children were going through their formative years, and Rev. Van Schelven and his - wife, Wilma, felt it would be best if they remained in Belle- ville instead of uprooting them once again. Even though the Van. Schel- vens have never lived in this area, they have been made to feel right at home here. The celebration, which leads up to International Women's Day on March 8, will feature a variety of different events. The activities begin on Monday, March 2 with a workshop on women and addiction. The workshop leader will be Sage Freechild, a professional counsellor and bodywork therapist. Around the Kitchen Table, a discussion period, is aimed at bringing women from different nationalities together to talk openly and honestly about their lives. It will be held on Tuesday, Ms. Freechild will lead another workshop on Wednesday, March 4. This time the topic will be new age-old age oppression. On Thursday, March 5 a workshop on midwifery and alter- native medicine will be led by Cat Charissage.
