"A Family Tradition for 125 Years" -- _-_e Legion Pee Wees bow out early In home tourney Saturday, Jan. 25, 1992 was the annual Pee Wee A tournament in Port Perry. The Legion Pee Wee A team met the frosty morning gory as their first game agains Whitby began at 7:50 a.m. The chilly trip to the arena seemed helptul, as Port appeared to hit the ice wide awake and in high gear. The first period remained scoreless. Both goalies pla ing well to keep the puck out of the net. Whitby scored first part way through the second period. Port continued to fight hard but re- mained scoreless during that period. Determined to tie the game, Port picked up steam in the third period. Good checkin and numerous shots on net final- ly paid off. With 2:17 to go in the third period Daryl McEnaney assisted by Kevin Hobbs scor for Port to tie the game. With seconds to go in the third period, Whitby got a breakaway. eryone was on the edge of their seats as they waited for the shot. The Port Perry fans went wild as Luke Carnaghan made an amaz- ing save, stopping the Whitby player in his tracks. Congratula- tions Luke for a job well done! Time to break the tie. Period four began with Port having a one man advantage as Whitby had a penalty. The play went end to end, several shots were taken but still no goal. Finally our forward line raced up the ice. A few good sses from Tom Chambers and att Phillips and a quick shot from Tim Fitzpatrick brought the Port Perry fans to their feet, the team to the ice and a smile to the faces of Ed and Garry. Final score, Port Perry 2 - Whitby 1. Great game boys. The second game for the Legion Pee Wee 'A' team was at 1:40 po against our old rival, Ux- ridge. Port looked good, skati and checking well. Again the firs iod remained scoreless. This ime Brian Bickmore was bet- ween the pipes for Port and all looked good at the end of period one. Port appeared to have a definite e on Uxbridge this me but we got no breaks from e Uxbridge goalie. Finally at 5:38 of the second period Kevin Hobbs found a hole and scored for Port. The assist went to Rob Murphy. Early in the third period however, Uxbridge blasted a shot past the ear of Port's goalie that caught the corner of the net and tied the game. With only minutes to go, Port pulled their goalie but the one man advantage didn't seem to help. Uxbridge popped the puck over the entire team and scored in the empty net. Then to add insult to injury, they scored once more with 33 seconds to go. Too bad Port. It was an exciting game though and you should have won. If this tournament action was any indication of how the Legion Pee Wees intend to pro- ceed in playoffs, we should see some exciting games as we meet Cobourg for the first round. Con- gratulations boys, you all played well. Keep up the good work. Congratulations also to the Ux- bridge Pee Wee 'A' team who went on to win the tournament on Saturday. Katie Senyk was overjoyed to play out this game and her eagerness paid off early when she assisted on Port's first goal scored by Shona Moase. Whitby managed to foil us twice in the first period. The second period was a new game with Port scoring three big goals and Whit- by only two to tie the score! --until the 17 second mark when Whitby scored to win the game 5-4. These three goals were scored by Shona, Laura Hooker and Lynda Payne and assisted by Cindy Verschuuren, Bonni-Jo Norton and Laura.
