But Ross Stevenson, Durham MP, says the possibility of an election in 1992 is "highly un- likely." ) "I would not say impossible, but it is highly unlikely." He added that a June election "was not a possibility." Mr. Stevenson says the prime minister does not have to call an election until November, 1993, and he says he doesn't believe one will be called until the econ- omy is better and the constitu- tional problems are straight- ened out. Mr Stevenson also said it would be highly unlikely for the prime minister to step down and then call a quick election. He said the party would have to elect a new leader and get orga- nized before calling the election. He says "an absolute minimum of six months" would be needed to get organized. The Durham MR says from all indications Mr. Mulroney in- tends to remain leader of the party, despite rumors across the country that he is unhappy. He downplayed the recent nomination of Mr. Mulroney for the United Nations position claiming Brian Mulroney "has solid support from many coun- tries" and could've had the job if he wanted it. Mr. Stevenson denied that the PC party is planning for an election this year, stating that a political party is always prepar- ing for an election. "As soon as one election is over, you start planning for an- other," he said. The Reform Party's Durham' Riding has taken steps towards preparing for an upcoming elec- tion, however. It recently changed its interim party desig- nation to a full party designa- tion, and selected an executive. Two trucks removed from lake From Page 1 Then, with cables attached to the bucket, the Brasier vehicle was inched slowly towards shore through the cleared open- ingin theice. The second vehicle, owned by Wendell J. Werry of Oshawa area, could not be reached by the backhoe, so crews were forced to cut a channel to the truck with chain saws. Once the channel was cut and cleared of ice, the backhoe pulled the second vehicle gently onto the shoreline. Ice at the location of the acci- dent was about five inches thick Sunday, although only two inches appeared solid. The oth- er three inches of ice was very soft and porous. A large crowd gathered on shore to watch under bright flood lights, as the trucks were lifted to safety. Neither showed extensive signs of exterior dam- age, although the frames and bumpers were caked with mud and weeds from the bottom of the lake. Mr. Fulford told the Star Monday morning that this was the fourth call he's answered this winter to pull vehicles from the lake and he's heard of others who have been hauled out.
