The purpose of the proposed Centre will be to co- ordinate communtiy services and provide information about the many different services availab‘e in Georgetown, Johnson explained. Glen Williams’ resident Kate Murray, who was hired on a 10-month contract just over four weeks ago, is the only paid committee member. Her function is to help the volunteer committee with plans which will lead to an information centre in Georgetown. “The Centre will be multi-service, providing information to residents and looking after the referral and co-ordina- tion of services,” Murray “A lot of people like to describe it as one-stop shop- ping—somewhere where you can get your information all in one place,” she added. Murray, who has seven years’ experience in the social service field with community groups in Toronto, said the local task force is examining the scope of the roposed Centre, as well as its financing and its possi- ble location. Funding is expected to come from provin- cial government ministries, local levels of government (the Region and Town), United Way and fund-raising events organized by volunteers. The Centre will likely be located in a rented facility or in a new building, depending on the availability of funding, Murray said. The site will be in Georgetown to guarantee “accessi- bility.” The Task Force committee has four subcommittees, each looking at specific aspects of the Proposal such as and funding and finance. Members are looking specifically at Georgetown’s services with an eye to “fill in some of the gaps and satisfy local needs,” Murray said. Among plans being considered by the committee are future presentations to Halton Hills Town Council and Halton Regional Council. Both presentations will out- line the purpose of the proposed Centre and the com- mittee’s progress toward establishing the new service in Georgetown. By the end of July, firm plans should be in place, Murray predicted, adding that the new Centre will bea welcome addition to the community. “The time is right in Georgetown,” she sai Commenting on the task force, she added, “What impresses me most is the community involvement on the committee. The commitment of task force mem- bers is good.” Carol Book 1992 Attention Hospitals, Churches, Schools, Fa-la-la-la-la La-la-la-la Christmas Seniors' Homes and Charitable rganizations...
