I Ganged the swamp and potatoes ground. Jake fetched down some Rye straw and got some hay. The wind has been North East and it has been quite cool to day. Thurs. 4 I started to plough the sod back for Oats. Pa rolled the medow on the end of the flats. Fri. 5 We are needing rain very bad. I ploughed till noon then went to the flats and dragged the S. Peas and Wheat. Pa ploughed all day. May 6 We got a letter from Symantha Bullard stating that Aunt Susan Ackerman was dead died on Saturday 22th April. It was a great surprise to us all. I sowed 3 bushels of Oats in the swamp. Stirling was here and he dragged them in and rolled most of it. Pa finished ploughing the sod back. Tu. 9 I drew 9 loads of Manure in the swamp on the po- tatoes ground. Pa rolled the Oats back. Wed. 10 Drew five loads of Manure on the corn ground on the flats Pa Gang the Potatoes ground in the swamp. After tea I went up to Jake with team to help Jake two or three days. May 11 Had a lovely rain. I was at Jakes. It rained all the four noon. We never needed rain much worse. And every- one rejoice over it. After dinner it cleared up and Jake and I ploughed. Fri. 12 Jake and I ploughed a peace of sod for Oats. After dinner I rolled. Fine growing time now after the rain. Sat. 13 Rained a little by showers most of the Four Noon. Drilled in Three bushels of Peas Oats for Jake. That fin- ished him up sowing. Then I come home. It has been quite cool all day. There has been frost out on the back road. I went up to the Black smiths to get some repairing done on the cow culti- vator. Wed 17 I started to paint the Kitchen. We are painting it Apple green. Pa went up to Milford after some corn meel to Dodge's. Fetched the Buggy home from S. Starkes He had it there seting the tires.
