South Bay U.C.W. U.C.W. ladies met at the church hall on Wednesday, December 12th, for a pot luck dinner at 12:00 noon. As usual, there was a wonderful variety from which to choose. President Brenda Minaker opened the meeting with a reading "Tis the Season," followed by our theme hymn, purpose and the Lord's Prayer. Marilyn Schamerhorn gave an inspiring devotional taken from Mathew, Chapter 2, verses 1 to 6. We take our spiritual roots from Jesus - we shouldn't take our wonderful heritage for granted but should preserve it to pass on to coming generations. We, as Christian women, should accept the challenge of understanding the many cultural differences of other peoples and must try to do Jesus' teachings. Secretary Marge Drury read and moved the adoption of the November minutes - accepted as read. Treasurer Joyce Minaker brought us up to date on our finances. Several thank you cards were received from residents and groups who were remembered. We are sorry to hear Madeline Rose had a fall and we all wish her a speedy recovery. All members who had a birthday or anniversary in December were remembered. It was suggested there were various items in the church that were no longer needed and Skip McCormack offered her place to have a yard sale later on. Thanks, Skip, we appreciate the offer. Baby sitting was arranged for another month. Skip McCormack and Merle Woodley had purchased toys and clothing for 2 sisters from the Children's Aid and the ladies wrapped these to be presented to there. Pat York moved and Maureen Rudd seconded that we make a $200.00 quarterly donation to the Mission and Service (also known as our allocation) Passed. Moved by Joyce Minaker and seconded by Pat York that we give a money float to our craft ladies. Carried. It was decided the U.C.W. would give a donation to the church in January, to be dedicated in remembrance of all church members who have died in the previous year. Maureen Rudd moved and Helen Von Bargon seconded that all monies taken in from our December Tea and Craft Sale be given to the church in January. Carried. Our collection was gathered and dedicated after which we had a carol singsong. We'd like to thank our secret pal of last year for remembering everyone with birthday and anniversary cards. Thanks, Joyce, that was a really nice gesture on your part. Marge Drury's Christmas contest was won by Merle Woodley and Alice Miller. Everyone enjoyed it and there was very little cheating. | The ladies had an exchange of gifts and there were some original ideas. Our January Meeting will be held in the Church Hall on the 9th, at 1:30 p.m. Maureen Rudd and Pat York are responsible for lunch, Brenda Minaker program, Joyce Minaker devotional and Alice Miller for social. Please note that any interested ladies are welcome. See you in January.
