The South Marysburgh Mirror Eh Art in the County 2001 opens Friday The Prince Edward County Arts Council's annual art show and sale "Art in the County 20017 opens at the Picton Old Town Hall on Friday June 29th. Now in its eighth vear this event features the recent work of artists resident in the County. It has quickly become one of the most successful art exhibits in Eastern Ontario and last summer attracted over 2500 visitors. This year's exhibit runs from Friday June 29th thru to Sunday July 22nd and is open every day from 10AM to 3PM, In response to many requests the show will also be open Friday evenings until 8 PM. All work in the show will be selected by a distinguished out-of-county jury. The jurors this year are: Melanie Eagan, the coordinator of the Craft Studio at Harbourfront who has organized and curated a number of significant exhibits: Joseph Muscat an award winning artist whose work is in many corporate and private collections: and Terry Torra who 1s the head of visual arts for the Waterloo Region District School Board and is also an award winning artist. Last year 80 local artists submitted. over 200 paintings, sculpture, crafis and photographs for the jury's consideration. From these the jury selected 110 works by 60 artists. Five "Jurors Awards" with a cash value of $130.00 together with several $73 honourable mentions will be presented at the opening reception on Thursday evening. A "Peoples Choice Award", chosen by visitors to the show and, for the first time this year, an "Artist's Choice Award", chosen by all of the artists submitting work, will be presented at the shows conclusion. Bell Canada is sponsoring the Jurors Awards and Wayne Cooper-RBC Dominion Securities is sponsoring both the People's Choice and the Artist's Choice awards. Tickets for a raffle of two works donated by local artists, Donnah Cameron, painter, and Maggie Murdoch, potter, are been sold at the show and at locations throughout the area. The draw for the two lucky winners will be held afer the event closes. The Corporation of the County of Prince Edward, Waring House, Taste the County, other local businesses, and various individuals, also contribute to its success by providing financial and in-kind support. The Picton Old Town Hall is located at the corner of King and Ross Streets above the fire hall. There is no charge for admission, however donations to help defray the cost of presenting this significant summer attraction will certainly be appreciated.
