Something needs to be done with the steeple of Mount Tabor. It looks awful. "I remember the last time it was painted, they tied ladders together and the volunteer painter swung in the breeze!" Now I"ve been in the township 22 years and | don't recall seeing such a sight, so yes the old girl must be due some makeup. Hopefully "Ain't it awful" will change to "Ain't it great!" in the next few weeks as the County has committed to having the tower, base and small windows painted. They will cover approximately 1/3 of the cost and this community has to raise the rest - Since the paint job will improve the view for many citizens in the area, the Mummers have arranged for private donations to be left at Video Variables with Bruce and Leni. A charitable receipt from the County can be mailed to you after if you wish. There's also a donation jar - every loony helps. The Mummers are committed to a donation and we hope other commu- nity groups will also join in the cause. This project ends by October 15th so we can get on with the painting. If you prefer to donate time, the Mummers have purchased primer and paint to do the rest of the windows this fall. Volunteers are welcome and needed to spend a sunny day on the south side scraping and painting. Please call Monica at 476-8045. Thanks for your usual community support! We grew up together and she was as close to being a sister as I will ever have. And she didn't mind judging the Dog and Cat Show at the Fair one bit. 1 wrote a letter to my brother in Ottawa to whom | have never written in my life or certainly not in my adult life and he phoned to tell me how pleased he was to get that letter. You are probably asking what these two statements have in common? 1 guess they are about reconnecting with family. We tend to take for granted that when we get the time to go and visit them or even something as simple as writing to them, our family will be there or that we will be here long enough to do these things. The surest way, | find, to enjoy one's relatives and friends is to let them know that we appreciate them. Sometimes we set expectations of what our family and friends owe us in return for what we feel we have done for them over the years. First if we did those kindnesses in expectation of their being returned ten fold at sometime in the future we will Continued on page 19 i the fall and winter.
