As long as I have sunflower seeds, fruit, hard candies or the like in my mouth when I'm feeling tired, I know I will never drift off. It seems to be impossible to eat and sleep simultaneously. Keep a jug of water with you always, and a flashlight. If you are fortunate enough to have a van or motorhome, then you might be interested to know that if vou park enroute at truck stops between the big rigs, you are usually very safe. Those guys are friendly and protective. Besides, its free. The constant hum of running motors becomes like white music to you and sleeping is easy - you might even dream that you are back in the dentist's chair. Many of the rest stops have pay showers now. On trips when I was tenting at night, I found that I felt safest at private back-yard campgrounds. Most of their customers are seniors with motorhomes and so sweet. They like to play cards and share their trips to Nashville, Disney World, the coast etc. (I wasn't jealous). Most people you'll meet, like yourself, are decent, kind and friendly. So plan to be friendly, to talk to lots of strangers and see what precious memories you'll create. Just goin' down the road (safely) and leavin' time behind. - Karen I.
