Sc recreation covers quite a bit of territory, not ail of which re- quires a committee or a lot of or- ganization. By the same token, there is recreation in this com- munity that does require a iot of organization, facilities and commit- tees to bring about. The softball leagues in the summer, the plays at Mount Tabor, the fair, the winter car- nival, the skating on the Mill Pond, efc., etc. We tend to see these as separate organizations, but they use the same facilities and draw volunteers and support from the same community. Recreation provides activities for young and oid to participate in in the com- munity and brings in visitors to the community. It is one of the most important assets to the well-being of the community. Have you visited the Mariners' Memorial Museum and Park iatety? Milford itself is, for a community the size of South Marysburgh, a gold mine of oppor- tunities, with its tennis courts, ball diamond, Library, Town Hail, Mount Tabor Playhouse, the Fair Barn and the Mill Pond. We are so accustomed to seeing these assets in our community that we take them for granted and assume that they will always be there, whether we use them or not. Cnly two of these facilities are not in our care, and they are the conservation area and the bird sanctuary, the rest are ours, cared for and funded by us, use. For the return on the dollar, recreation in this community costs very jittie money, but it takes the time, organizing skills and talents of many volunteers and your sup- Recreation cont'd pa.
