The festival is a competition that draws on vocal and instrumental students from Montreal to the east to Milford in the west. Emily sang Friday evening in the Open |, (13 yrs and under) category with 9 other contestants, singing "Look to the Rainbow", from Finian's Rainbow and "Nothing" from A Chorus Line. She sang again on Saturday morning in the same age group, competing with nine young vocalists and placed second with her rendition of "Wind Beneath my Wings". Later that same day she competed twice against 18 contestants, in the 16 years and older category, singing "On My Own" and "! Dreamed a Dream" from Les Miserables, finishing second. On Sunday evening, the announcements of Friday evening's Open Categories winners were made. Emily was awarded a first for her efforts. All in all, she came home with four trophies; 2 Firsts for the 16vears and under, 1 second for the 13vears and under and a first for the open category 13 years and under, As well, she auditioned in June for CUOH's "Homegrown Cafe" television show and hopes to be invited to sing on that programme this fall. She has appeared on the show before, winning a place in the semi-finals. She welcomes the opportunity to perform for local audiences, as this gives her more confidence and experience for future competi- tions as well as providing her with an opportunity to sing, an activity she enjoys.
