Walker, It iz with great admiration that I write thiz letter telling you how much we appreciate your ettortz in making the "South Maryzburgh Mirror" a delight to read, and the very informative editorialz particularly in the lazt two izzuez: "The Breach that iz Meech," and the latest "A mandate from the Peiple". You have shown that your insight, and political aucmen iz very accute and both articlez were excellent. You mention in "A Mandate from the People" a few of the many shortcomings of our present governmentz both Federally and Provincially, and how the people can change thiz from within their respective parties. Having been one of those who write numerous letterz to a great number of M.P.2 on the two levelz of government including Premiers of other Provinces az well az Ontario. can only zay that it iz an exercies in frustration. I know of many dozens of letterz that have been sent to our local II.P.P. and to my knowledge he haz yet to addrezz the questions put to him, and I am certain that if he had done so in the legizlature he would not have been returned dy acclamation dy hiz party a few weekz ago. So much for representing his constituentz in thiz riding. What iz happening however he and the rest of our elected, are reprezenting their respective partiez to uz. a complete reversal of what waz originally intended. We have far resching bills being paszed that will alter thiz province for yearz to come, and while only 55 memberz out of 125 were zitting in the legizlature. and thiz on a recorded vote. Where waz the opposition that day, our cashing their pay cheques? And the Federal government have received the largest petition ever prezented regarding the Royal Canadian Mounted Police that waz completley ignored by a typically arrogant elected body albeit Federal or Provincial. How can you get the right representation in government even if you get 80% of the voterz exercising their right, if the party leader can dictate how that member can vote when it comes to the consitiventz verczez the party well being. We have all zeen what happenz when they don't follow the leader. The big three only represent the voter on election day, after that they represent the Party first and foremost. Thiz will not change until a recall syztem iz installed in our legislation. Thiz iz why we are working so hard to bring an alternative to the voter, rather than one body with three heads. After 40 yearz with one party, I came away knowing the changez would never be made from within. and thiz iz why I am voting and promoting The Ontario Federation of Regionz Party, az they sre not being funded by special interest groups or dig dusinesz, and are a grazz rootz party, advocating the changez that are greatly needed for a responsible government that iz really answerabel to the people and not a leader.
