VOLUME I, ISSUE 5 THE ACTON MONTHLY PAGE 3 Study conducted in February to measure traffic at Mill & Main Streets Special monitoring equipment was set up at the intersection of Mill & Main Streets as part of an on-going traffic study. The most recent study, conducted by Spectrum Traffic Data Inc., took place from Tuesday, February 7th to Thursday, February 9th. According to Spectrum's Vice President, Peter Ilias, the study is typically conducted during the week from Tuesday to Thursday to get the best numbers possible as these are the days of the week when most people commute to work. The traffic study is conducted as a way for developers to calculate what impact new development will have on the roads from existing data and it can also help municipalities determine how well-timed traffic signals are in order to keep up with the volume of cars that pass through the intersection. Data collected enables a comparison of volumes before, during, and after the pandemic and associated lockdowns. It is to note that Spectrum had the Town of Halton Hills’ permission to set up the special equipment and conduct the study, similar to other locations across southern Ontario and the GTA. This data collected will be used as general information to any and all traffic engineering firms or municipalities, for free, as a point of reference to provide a guide for any Traffic Impact Studies that will be prepared presently and for the future. When looking at previous data collected, prior to the pandemic in January 2020, over 11,100 vehicles had passed through Mill & Main in an 8-hour period, compared to an 8-hour period of 10,679 cars during the third pandemic lockdown of May 2021. While the latest data from February’s study has yet to be analyzed and released, it is expected to see an increase in traffic to more normal levels of those seen in the time prior to the pandemic. “The Opticians Behind the Church” aii} Acton’s favourite eyecare provider Eye exams available on site e¢ Adjustments, cleaning and minor repairs are always free 80 Mill Street East 519-853-5133 © actonoptical.ca
