10 / March 2023 The South Marysburgh Mirror Mix of Veteran and New Faces Appointed to South Marysburgh Rec Board The start of the new term of municipal council triggers the appointment of nine members to the South Marysburgh Recre- ation Board. All candidates in- cluding existing members apply to and are appointed to a four- year term by the new council. Appointed on February 28 ere: * Bruce Dowdell who has been on the rec board for more than 12 years and chair for 10 years Kathy Empringham is going into her second term; she and her husband Steve (listed below) are very active in organizing rec events such as the Hallowe’en and Santa activities Stephan Empringham, a mu- sician and former drummer for Grampa’s Goodtime Gang, also going into his second term Janna McCarthy, entering her third term; she is also very active on the Milford Fair Board Craig McMillan, also a mu- sician, is returning for an- other term; he has been undertaking bookings for events as well as construc- tion requirements Brian Sword served as vice chair and is starting his sec- ond term; he is in video production New members to the rec board this year are: Monica Alyea, a former mu- nicipal councillor, former chair of the PECM Hospital Foundation Board, founding member of the theatre group, the Mummers Paulina Szlachta, who moved to South Bay in 2020; her family of husband Matt, son Ezra and dog Suki are big fans of and enjoy many out- door activities in PEC © Greg Walker who along with his wife Niki has been an active volunteer on the Rec Board and is now joining as a voting member; his father, Joel, was chair of the Rec Board for several years As the ward councillor, John Hirsch returns as a member of the board. At the Rec Board meeting in early March, the voting mem- bers will elect a chair, vice chair, secretary and treasurer. Thinking about the coming year, Bruce Dowdell says one of the first things on the agenda of the new board will be to organ- ize the annual South Marys- burgh Easter Egg Hunt.
