|The South Marysburgh Mirror The Marysburgh Mummers Supporting Our Community and Beyond Although the funds from early Mummer’s shows were used to fix up Mt. Tabor, if there was a need in the community the Mummers stepped up to help. The Mummers have always done what they do best Get on stage and entertain. Here are just a few examples: - For many years they put on skits for entertainment at the Milford Fair. - In 1986 they held two benefit performances April 4 and 5" and 50 percent of the net proceeds to Athol/South Marysburgh Home and School to buy musical instruments for the School. - David Sunnicks had adapted TV episodes of Fawity Towers for our stage and in 1999 John Cleese and. Connie Booth gave him permission to perform it. In lieu of royalties, we were to make a donation i to Amnest AnA as in the audience for the final show and was flabbergasted when she was presented with a cheque for $500.00 - In the Fall of 2000 Mummer Chris McKay was badly injured in a car accident. That December we performed Dancing with a Christmas Cactus as a fund raiser for him. In the spring of that year he had a number in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat where he danced with a full size cactus. - In April of 2006, Monica Alyea put together and directed Around the World in 80 Minutes. The proceeds from this show went to the Ryan’s Well Foundation and SOS Children’s Villages. As an added bonus the children in the show seamed a lot about other countries, their songs and dance: - In May 2007 Al Hazell ‘directed Doctor in the House. All the cast but one were County medi practitioners. From that show, the Mummers were able to donate $9,000. to the Prince Edward Memorial Hospital Foundation. - Financial support is also given to The Mirror for Des’s continued support, Milford in Bloom to help with the planting of the bridge boxes as well as other local groups as their needs arise. However, none of these projects would have been possible without the support of You, the audience. xt month: How the Mummers help Personal Growth - Bruce Dowdell Attention All Mummers We are trying to archive all materi- al from the Mummers 25 years. My mother would go to the library and return with a stack of Louis L’Amour, Zane Grey and Max Brand novels. They were pretty prolific westem writers, enough that Grand Dad couldn’t remember that he’d already read them, so while the selection at the library was lim- ited, he had a lifetime supply of reading material. See what I mean? I had no idea what to write about so I just started babbling and after a little while the page was full. That’s hypergraphia. - George Underhill
