|The South Marysburgh Mirror Milford Community | Friendship Circle Barb Balsillie opened her home and graciously received the Circle ladies on Thur. Sept 3 at 1:30pm. President Marg Crouse opened with this little gem - Children are a great comfort in your old age and they help you get there quickly. Barb's Thought for the Day had a little different slant - Tuming over a new leaf in September instead of the beginning of the year. Secretary Marge read the minutes of the June meeting which were accepted. (They had to be because nobody remembered that far back) Eight members answered roll call by recalling favourite games they played as kids. Some were - killy-iley over, Red Rover, whip and top, scrub (a form of baseball), snap the whip, steal sticks, drop the hankey, leap frog, double Dutch (skip rope), alleys, hop Scotch, conkers. Card Secretary Mary sent four sympathy cards. Treasurer Wilma reported our meagre finances. Luckily, we had no bills to pay. Even so, our group donated $50 each to Milford Fair and the Terry Fox run. Margaret had two humorous readings - (1) My Wife Always Wanted a Riding Lawn Mower and (2) Day Dreams. Marge entertained and challenged us with two contests - no Winners or all winners if you'd rather. arb lured us in to the dining room where she soothed us enh soul food. Ahhh. Juanita recovered enough to express our appreciation for Barb's hospitality. South Bay UCW UCW met at South Bay United Church hall on Wed. Sept 9, at 1:30pm. President Sandra opened on a sad note - a reading about the funeral of the Pillsbury dough boy. UCW purpose, hymn and Lord's Prayer set the right tone for our meeting. Sandra's devotional was based on Mathew Chapter 19 v 20, 21 expounding us to give up everything to follow Jesus. We have to ask ourselves - How important are things? An example of sacrifice was of the beautiful tea cup. Many severe processes had to be endured to reach the final stage. Nine members and one visitor answered roll call with their summer stories. Some travelled, some had a garden, some worked as usual, some had their grandchildren visit and one went to general council in Kelowna. Eighteen sick calls were made.
