|The South Marysburgh Mirror Positive Thinking I’m sitting on the front porch feeling a little sorry for my- self. You know how it is at times. There are aches and pains, plans gone awry, not winning the lottery and lots of negative feelings. Valerie in her usual helpful manner says “Snap out of it, look on the positive things in life. Remember the best thinking is positive thinking.” So I sat back and looked around. The sun is shining, birds are singing and hey look, a humming bird is trying out the new feeder. The flowers from Walker’s Green- house are in bloom in pots and hanging pails around the house and lilacs, from bushes on our own property and from our neighbours lend a smell to the air that would be envied by most people. I began to feel better. We, if this had been a normal year, would be planning to fly to Copenhagen next week for a two week cruise through Scandinavian countries and spending several days in St. Petersburgh. Unfortunately, perhaps, we had to cancel the trip we had booked last fall. With any luck we can rebook for another year. We did have a ‘cruise’ last weekend. Our son and his wife and the two grand daughters came down last week- end. Aside from shopping for birthday presents with Va- lerie and their mother (Valerie vows every year that she will not go into Toys R us again!), enjoying marvelous meals, having a gala fire works event shared with friends and everyone, except me participating in the Canoe Trip down the Black River sponsored by St. Philip’s church. Over 40 canoes, kayaks and one row boat took part. The event which has been going on for years was once again a tremendous success, thanks in no small measure to the Guernsey’s who supplied the launch site and Bruce and Paula Walker who arranged the event . Bruce and Paula once again carried Valerie as a passenger and also sup- plied the canoes for the use of son’s family. The destina- tion spot was provided as usual by Rita Taylor with hot dogs and goodies for all the hungry paddlers and those like me who just tuned up to watch and eat! One added advantage of this cruise was that you could fully partici- pate without knowing a word in any Scandinavian lan- guage or Russian. The only enhancement to the weekend would have been if the lilacs had been in bloom as they are this weekend, but as they say “Que Sera, Sera! Valerie and I are heading off this week to Collingwood. No not to ski, but to attend a conference for several days. The conference is a CFDC National event and CFDC PELA is one of my volunteer involvements. We have at- tended several regional (Ontario) events but this will be our first national event which is held every three years. I know the weather will be great, the scenery spectacular and the meeting of former and new participants a real joy. Ihaven’t been to Collingwood for a number of years. A friend owned a chalet at Craigliegh and we visited a num- ber of times but only in the summer since we were not skiers. Our Son Allan did become a good skier and went to either Europe, Quebec or Collingwood for a number of years. The two granddaughters are taking skiing lessons so probably will do something similar as they get older. Valerie and I thought we should go somewhere. We are, as we do every year, going to Kingston for several days in July but we are also considering other spots such as Sault Ste. Marie (the Agawa Canyon) and New York City. Ihave been to the “Soo” many times in the past but never New York City whereas Valerie has been to New York City but never the “Soo”. This means that the discussions to finally arrive at a decision will be most in- teresting. Who knows, perhaps we will compromise on a third choice. If you have any suggestions, let us know. While on this whole subject of travel here or there I must tell you of the Cycle Time Trials scheduled for June 6" in Milford, Prince Edward County. The trials will start and finish at Bond Road and St. Philip’s St. Start time is 8.30 a.m. and it is expected that the trials will be over by 1.00 p.m. The effect is that Bond Road,Walmer Road and CR24 from Walmer to Simpson Road will be closed ex- cept for local residential, religious and business traffic only. The police and marshals will be present on the route. Parking, Sign In and Toilets will be at Mt. Tabor. WOW! Who said that living in Milford is boring? Yes- terday I drove into the village and found a whole lot of motor cycles at an event! Valerie says that we may be- come the two-wheel capital of the “County’. - John A Jackson
