You get the picture. To them you are the wisest of the wise. And then they leave giving you the opportunity to crash and rebuild your strength till that next time you are looking forward to with great anticipation. Christmas is approaching. A time when we re- member a child...a very special child who came into this world as all children do, full of hope and promise; a clay vessel just waiting to be shaped by loving parents into something even more beautiful. But the Christ child was to be different. His birth was a gift to humanity which was later to be understood as the work of the Creator. The coming weeks which we call ‘Advent’ are an opportunity to reflect on that special birth and what it can mean to us. These pre- Christmas weeks provide us with a period of time in which to pause and reflect on our own lives and perhaps, just perhaps what we are doing to share the joy of life with others less fortunate. Remember, ‘we live when we give, and we die when we fail to try.” Whether you are a young person reading this, a single, a parent or grandparent you are God’s gift to your family and your community. Being that gift need not involve financial re- sources, because the greatest gift that you have and can pass on to others is right attitude and love. ‘0 the next time you have an embarrassing mo- ment of temporary memory loss, just remember (if you can ©) it’s not really the name that matters, it’s the warm smile that you project and the gift of a listening and com- passionate ear which will make you a person to be re- membered in their lives. You are God’s gift to the world and all you need to do is believe it. Happy Christmas when it comes. Blessings, Pastor Ian.
