[10 |, The South Marysburgh Mirror Municipally Yours, So where to start? Which topic? ATVs, wind turbines, tax increases, sewage treatment plant... No - I want to start by thanking my neighbours, Trevor and Andrea Miller, for making sure I got out of my driveway to every Council and Committee meeting this past winter. Most meetings have definitely been “challenging” but being able to start for them without getting stuck at least kept my temper in check until I got to Shire Hall. If ever there was a time when I wanted to challenge amalgamation, it has been in the last few months. We are incredibly blessed with where we live and I would so prefer to have been spending my time fully on the maintenance and development of South Marysburgh. But that’s not the job so a couple of “County ”projects have been huge time consumers. Now on a positive front... Milford 200 - the Bicentennial This has been so satisfying. The Committee continues to evolve, so feel free to give me a call or Rev. Jean Wilson (476-1396), who is chairing it, if you have an idea or want to assist in some way. I understand the 1000 White Pines have all been spoken for and pickup should occur on Saturday May 3 at the Buckwheat Pancake Breakfast being held from 8 - noon at the Milford Town Hall. Special thanks to Carolyn Barnes of the Milford Bloomers for her efforts with this project. South Marysburgh residents can also pick up one (1) free CFL bulb as part of “Project Porchlight”, our contemporary en- vironmental spin on fireworks, at that event. Additional bulbs for residents and non-residents will be available at $2.00 each. Sponsors to date for this project include The Madwomen of Marysburgh Concert, Joel Walker Electric and Century 21 ( Hugh Jackson and Don Ross). Thank you! And we are looking for more.. This past week I joined Pieter deBoer and Bruce Dowdell to clear the old Quinte Conservation path that runs along the river from the bridge down to the Milford Library. This was part of the original mill road and is worth a visit. Over the years it has been the backyard garbage dump for cans and broken glass - I have one of those in my back yard too, a rural tradition before communal dump sites - and interest- ing things tumed up the other day. I found a small piece of Depression glass and old pharmaceutical bottles so if you’re a “picker”, it’s worth a visit soon. The plan is to eventually clear it all out ... you could help - bring a bag! Economic Development The next meeting to consider efforts for developing Milford and the area, “economically” will be held as follows: Tuesday, May 20, 8:00 p.m. (so we can still farm and garden later!) Milford Town Hall Dan Taylor, Economic Development Officer for PEC, will speak about the Creative Rural Economy. Rev. Jean Wilson and Chris Pengally of the Milford Bistro have put together a JCP (Job Creation grant proposal) with Dan’s assistance that will hopefully provide us with someone to assist in the development of economically beneficial ideas for the area. Besides a little pep talk, our job that night will be to create some work groups with a team lead to develop concepts, ideas and hopefully work plans over the coming months. Milford 200 seems to be rolling out some projects with great potential for future development - road bowling, an Ontario Cup Bike Race family weekend, tours of Scott’s Mill, and a Saturday Market. Finally speaking about great potential, I want to recognize Kelsey Miller, son of Angela and Martin Miller, who has been named one of 4-H Ontario’s 2008 Ambas- sadors. Along with 5 other Ontario teens ( including Justin Williams of Bloomfield), Kelsey will spend the next year promoting 4-H across the province. Kelsey has completed 28 4-H projects to date including agriculture and lifestyle topics. Milford 4-H Club is one of numerous groups serving youth in our community - youth who in turn give back to our community. Congratulations Kelsey and thanks for put- ting Milford on 4-H Ontario’s map! Monica Monica Alyea, Councillor 613-476-8045 malyea@pecounty.on.ca South Bay U.C.W. - Continued from page 2 made at next meeting. Pat suggested having a quilt show and serving refresh- ments. Ladies were to think about it and discuss more at next meeting. Joyce gave the treasurer's report. Moved by Eleanor and seconded by Irene that Joyce issue cheques to the Mission and Service fund. Filled out some more of our Program program. Marg Crouse had a reading called "A woman and a fork." A dying lady requested she be buried with a fork in her right hand. During her life if she was told to keep her fork it meant the best was yet to come. She also ew what lay ahead of her after death. Collection was tak- en and dedicated - this to go to Cancer fund. Marge had a contest called "Complete the old sayings". Barb and Pat had lunch - they were thanked by Marge Drury.
