[20 |, The South Marysburgh Mirror THE LAST WORD In all endeavors there comes a time to pass the torch and move on. Now is such a time in the life of Bill Yates... Do I hear the sound of cheering reverberating across the County? Yes, I feel that the moment is here for Bill to thank you for your readership; thank you hopefully for considering a viewpoint that may be different e one that you hold; thank Des Marcille, the publisher of the South Marysburgh Mirror for making the space available for this column; THANK YOU the readers and move on. My hope would be that some of the topics I have chosen to explore on this page are ones about which you may not have given a great deal of thought, and are now encour- aged to delve deeper and gain more understanding about them for yourself. As you do so, please remember that: A successful community is one in which the ide- as and attitudes of ALL the people are carefully considered before decisions are made and acted upon. A successful community is one in which no one segment of the community is allowed, through their activities, to change the quiet enjoyment of the other. A successful community is one which has achieved that intricate balance between wants and needs, renewal and unrestricted develop- ent. A successful community is one in which the leaders understand these concepts, chose them as their model of leadership and management and faithfully act upon them. Encouraging a successful and involved community has been the thrust of Bill’s pen (or should I say ‘keys’). I feel that the time is ripe for another ‘viewpoint’ to step up to the plate and invite your input and participation; some- thing that I have never been able to accomplish with Mir- ror readership. So it is with grateful thanks to those who have pa- tiently read the last word, that I submit this final brief tome for your edification and wish you all the very best in the coming year. Support The Mirror in any way that you are able. It represents a segment of The County and rural life in a very wonderful and vital way. That is truly the last word from me. Sincerely - Bill Yates, Friend of the County.
