— October, 2007 VOLUME XXI, Number 10 Ue Sout Any Spa ANI OT Published for and about local people and events Thank You I want to thank the Fair Board and the Directors for all their hard work starting in April to plan another success- ful Milford Fair. Many thanks to the volunteers who started setting up the Wednesday before the Fair and cleaned up on Sunday and Monday as well as all those volunteers who helped on Saturday to make sure that Fair day ran smoothly and successfully. There are some people who, year after year look af- ter details that most people take for granted. Tim York and his son Scott move the bleachers and create our stage. Randy York puts up the speaker for the PA and the flags on the front of the Shed. Joel Walker hooks up a hot water tank for the Food Booth and Bill Creasy brings in a trailer to store all the garbage until it can be taken to the dump. Glendon Walker and the South Marysburgh Fire Depart- ment look after road closures for the parade and the First Aid station during the Fair. S/sgt Bemie Gaw and the OPP clear the way for the parade route and the staff at The Coun- ty’s Parks, Recreation and Culture Department that make sure we have garbage and recycling bins and the permits that are required. A big Thank You to all the citizens and businesses in South Marysburgh and Picton who so generously donated prize money and gifts for The Fair. South Marysburgh Fire Department to the Rescue Sometimes the smell of burning in your house is nothing to worry about: the toast got a bit singed; you’ve just opened the woodstove to put more logs in; your neighbours are burning brush and you didn’t get the win- dows closed in time. But when there’s no good reason for it, the smell of buming is terrifying. Frank noticed it first that Sunday morning last spring. It seemed to be in just one part of the house, in the hallway right outside our bedroom door and in the bedroom itself. Hearts pounding but hoping to find a be- nign explanation, we raced through the house looking for the source, but found nothing. We dashed outside to sniff the air, but it was fine. Then we remembered the mouse. We had heard one in the house the last couple of days, but the wily creature had managed to eat all the peanut butter on the traps without getting caught. Could it have been nibbling electrical wires, too? We were really frightened by this time. The burning smell was getting stronger and stronger, and we couldn’t find the cause. We took the next logical step: we phoned 911.
